St. John, N.B.: Off the Beaten Path Sights?

We'd like to rent a car and drive to some not-necessarily-touristy places off the beaten path. Are there any particularly scenic or otherwise interesting locations anyone can recommend that wouldn't be too difficult for people not familiar with the area to drive to? We're particularly interested in any wildlife refuges or things like that.
