Jasjas Posted November 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 15, 2014 My friend and I, two healthy ladies in our mid sixties, will have one full day (a Friday) to spend in Anchorage in September 2015, before we board the train to Seward where we will spend 2 days before our 7 day cruise to Vancouver. We will be staying at Comfort Inn Ship Creek. What can we see and do without spending much money ? We are not too keen on museums and history. Sincere thanks. frugaltravel Posted November 15, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 15, 2014 When in September? That makes a huge difference that time of year. Will you have a car? So much of Alaska is based on history - history of the gold rush, history of the Native Americans, etc. So that eliminates a lot of options. I would check anchorage.net and see what might appeal to you. If it were me, I would probably rent a car for the day and drive along Turnagain Arm to explore that beautiful area. mapleleaves Posted November 15, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 15, 2014 I too would recommend renting a car for the day so that you could enjoy sights along the Turnagain Arm .... Wildlife Conservation Center, Alyeska Resort, Potters Marsh, Portage Lake/Glacier. All within 50 miles of Anchorage. Lots of suggestions on the city web site http://www.anchorage.net or alaska.org is a great site: http://www.alaska.org/destination/anchorage/things-to-do If you can't find this book locally, I suggest you order it on-line. It's a helpful resource. 'Alaska, Ports of Call' by Fodor.
