Chervan Posted November 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 24, 2014 Hi, We are doing a Caribbean cruise in February and finishing in Galveston. We are flying out of Houston. The airline has changed our flight (again) and we are now scheduled to fly to Dallas Fort Worth at 11:25 AM. Will this be doable for us? Ship docks by 8AM. We were going to use the Carnival shuttle, but not sure what time it will depart from the port. Is Port of Galveston to Houston really a one hour trip? Any suggestions appreciated! DobberDog Posted November 24, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 24, 2014 are you flying out of HOU (houston Hobby) or IAH (Bush Intercontinental)? HOU is the closer of the 2 but it CAN take an hour depending on traffic and what time the ship docks. We live about 15 minutes from Galveston and about 30 minutes from HOU. If its IAH, i doubt you make it on time. Also, beware the fog in the beginning of the year for Galveston. Our cruise in Feb 2, this year we didnt get on the ship until 9 pm and couldnt dock and debark until late afternoon due to fog. The port authority will close the port in a heartbeat if the fog starts rolling in.

I'm guessing you are flying out of Bush, cause Houston has two airports, hobby is the closet and Bush is about an hour away. Depends on what day you come in on, during the week you will be in a lot of traffic getting through downtown and to the airport. All you have to do is go to guest service and tell them you have an early flight and they will give you luggage tag 1 so you will be off quickly. I would do self assist if possible. We mostly go out of Galveston and we are usually off the boat by 8 sometimes earlier. Although, coming in, in Feb. Galveston can get very foggy. Not to sure about Carnival Shuttle and how soon they will leave, but they probably will get a group of early flight together and get them on their way. Enjoy your cruise. winddawn Posted November 25, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 25, 2014 (edited) "Getting from Port of Galveston to FLL for flight home" That's a long drive. FLL is Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Hahah! I did a double take on that too. Lol. I suggest to the OP that she call her airline. They will typically allow you to change your flight for free since they changed your flight time after you booked. That might be better than stressing during your entire cruise about whether you're going to make it to the airport in time after your cruise. Carnival recommends no flights earlier than 1:30 PM. http://www.carnival.com/cruise-transfers/galveston.aspx Edited November 25, 2014 by winddawn
ABQrobin Posted November 25, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 25, 2014 Change your flight. You are going to be pushing it....especially if you are going to Bush Int airport on north end of town. We were just there, got off the boat in Galveston around 9am, it took a good 45 minutes to get through there and board the bus to Hobby airport (southside of town, closest to Galveston). BUT you have to wait until that shuttle bus is full before it leaves. So it was around 10am before we pulled out of Galveston on a Sunday afternoon. Traffic didn't seem bad, got to Hobby around 10:45am, through airline checkin, then had to wait for our flight. It worked out fine for us, but our flight was at 1pm, so plenty of time to eat lunch and relax. I just think you maybe arriving at Bush around the boarding time and might miss your flight. On the website, it tells you not to book a flight leaving before 1pm for that reason. IF the boat is delayed at all, or if traffic is bad (they close down the loops around the city to work on them), you might not make it.
