I don't know if they block RDP (most likely not), but the high latency will probably make it nearly unusable.

Don't know of any ships that charge by the MB. Only cell phone providers do that . I have a MB cap on my internet at home , they never seem to care if I'm over the cap.

I've never seen any offer other than various options to purchase "by the minute" plans, the "per minute" price varying depending on how many minutes you elect to purchase.

Only the Breakaway charges by the MB.

 

I have used a RDP quite a few times with no problem.

DW and I just returned off the Breakaway and they do charge by the MB up to 1 GB.

Yes, the newer ship(s) are working through the charge by MB plan.

Last I heard it was just the Breakaway, but I'd be pleased to hear if they are doing it that was on the Getaway too.

Yeah....we definitely had issues trying to use Teamviewer to access work computers via RDP.

Does anybody know if Star after dry dock will count internet by minutes like so far or by MB like on newer ships ?

Dry dock is planned in Feb/March 2015.

I doubt it. Other ships have dry docked recently without such changes.

Also the dry docking doesn't matter in this case, they would be able to change to traffic based billing on all ships immediately if they wanted to - it's nothing that would require additional installations etc, just configuration to the existing system.

Internet on the Epic was horrid. Took 10 minutes just to send an email, after having to retype it since it timed out the first time.

The Internet on the Epic is actually better than several other ships, but the point is that it's *not* land based. There are better systems out there, but the Epic is by far not the worse.

 

Also, the best way to efficiently use time based internet packages is to compose email offline on your own device (like the iPad you posted this message with). Connect, send the emails you've composed offline, grab new emails and disconnect.
