Cruise canceled on Dream

I've read dozens of threads where people wanted Carnival to do some different itineraries instead of the same old ports week after week, year after year.

Carnival has listened and is changing a few of its cruises to different ports and some longer cruises. They are trying to give about a years notice to everyone so people have time to change their plans. Since people want different itineraries now and Carnival has been booking cruises 2 1/2 years in advance, they have to change some of their cruises within a year instead of making people wait 2 1/2 years for the new itineraries.

Sure, some people will be inconvenienced by these changes but can you blame Carnival for doing exactly what the majority of cruisers want them to do? I do feel sorry for those who are unable to alter their plans even though they have an 11 month notice plus $50 OBC for their inconveniences but Carnival is just trying to listen to their customers and do what the majority of them want.

I, for one, will be thrilled to skip Cozumel, Belize or Freeport for a change to go to ports more exotic and less frequented.

This is very interesting -- The way the letter is written it sure sounds like we'll be hearing of some more cancellations.

Canceling 3 - 7 day cruises could become one 10 and one 11 day.. I don't know where a 14 day would come from without other ships involved.

This will be very interesting indeed :)

I went to Carnival's website and searched for cruises on any ship in October 10+ days.

There are only two listed - the Miracle (Hawaii) and the Triumph (repo to SJ)

On the left where it lists the ships the Dream and Glory are not grayed out. Will we hear from folks on the Glory soon?

You can select the Dream and Glory -- but no cruises listed yet All other ships are not select-able

The Triumph isn't a repo cruise. It is part of a 11 day from Galveston to San Juan and then a 10 day return from San Juan to Galveston. They are doing this 3 times. Maybe they have something like this in the works for the Dream. Seems like they could do this from New Orleans since they are doing it from Galveston.

I don't see the target demographic for Carnival Cruise Lines demanding cruises of two weeks or longer. Those who wish to do longer cruises typically sail on another cruise line. When they're having extreme difficulty filling ships because of a saturated market causing them to consistently offer cruises on a complimentary basis or deeply discount fares to under $100 or even $29pppd for a longer cruise, there is no possibility for Carnival to sail at an occupancy over 100% with a ship doing routine 10,11,12,14 or 16 night cruises.

By offering the few they are now, this improves exclusivity and increases demand for those who require sailing on Carnival. With a lower occupancy, lower cruise fare and an onboard demographic of an older age bracket that doesn't drink alcohol, spend late nights in the casino or other activities that attract a higher incoming revenue for Carnival, there wouldn't be too much of a reason. On a 16 day repositioning cruise on Carnival, the ship appears to be that of a Princess or Holland America ship - dead (without trying to be disrespectful, but the passengers themselves are almost able to mimic the onboard atmosphere in their lifecycle).

We've seen this with Mobile. We've seen this with New York. We've seen this with the Legend's European season. We've seen this with a multitude of companies and even being extended to various products being offered. If the money isn't there, there is no reason for the publicly traded company to be there.

Technically, it is not a repositioning cruise. It is an open loop cruise. However, being a one way transit, many passengers and crew think of it being a repositioning cruise as the port of disembarkation differs. They can do a one way transit from ANY port, providing they are in line with local cabotage laws. San Juan is exempt from the Passenger Vessel Services Act, meaning a distant foreign port of call is not required. However, if it returned to a different port of disembarkation on the following segment, it would only be legal for a B2B if a distant foreign port is visited.

That's interesting -- Like a canal cruise without the canal ;) Thanks for the info

If we had a bit more time -- we would look at that as a B2B -- we're not flying either way to San Juan -- too far for us! :)

For us, on the West Coast, our choices have been even more limited.

We've jumped lines to Princess doing cruises into the Sea of Cortez.

We are very excited to do the Miracle in 2016.

We will look seriously at longer Carnival cruises ---- I don't know if we're are necessarily Carnival's typical demographic. On the longer Carnival cruises we've taken, the demographic adjusts to the length.

We were pretty young on our first Carnival cruise -- not so much now

On a Carnival Hawaii cruise, the age group looks about the same as HAL or Celebrity.

We saw a big difference on a B2B on the Spirit between the 5 day segment and the 8 day.

I know when the very rare canal cruise on Carnival is announced, it sells out almost immediately

This will be fascinating to see how this shakes out. :)

We also think 10 days is perfect (especially if it is out our home port of San Diego)

We just heard from our friends on our B2B on the Dream -- they are now interested on the 21 day Triumph B2B --- we can't do it -- DW just can't be gone that long from work :(

... come on retirement!!!

I haven't heard about any changes to our late November cruise on the Freedom out of Galveston yet, but all this talk of cancelled cruises for 2015/2016 is making me nervous.

I really hope nothing happens...I'm supposed to be getting engaged on that cruise

Very sorry to everyone who had their cruises cancelled, I would certainly be pretty bummed. I hope that Carnival works with everyone and some good solutions are reached.

I am happy to see that Carnival is doing longer cruises now though...I was thinking of trying New Orleans sometime and now it's even more appealing with longer cruises.

This is the problem. With an attitude like this, you're basically telling the cruise line you approve of any change they can dream of because <insert first world problem related statement here, even though completely irrelevant>. You're absolutely entitled to goodwill for the trip interruption and cancellation.

Nope, someone who has their cruise canceled is not "entitled" to anything. Carnival may, at their choosing, "extend" a goodwill measure, but the customer is not entitled to one.

New Orleans is a fantastic cruise port. Congratulations on your pre-engagement

I didn't know what true happiness was until I got married.

Then it was too late. ;)

Thank you very much, ha.

:p

But yes, I remember sailing from the port of New Orleans on Royal when I was a kid and really wanted to sail out of there on Carnival at some point. I'm getting a craving for beignets again...:D

Thanks for the heads up on the Dream itineraries

I am bummed at the replacement cruises -- that is the same route as the Triumph.

We would book either a 10 or 11 day on the Dream, but we are not going to fly to or from San Juan -- it is a long flight from San Diego. :(

If we could take 3 weeks off work -- we would book them both as a B2B -- but we can't :(:(:(

We're back to the drawing board :)

If you search Carnival website from Oct 15 thru April 16 Carribean 10 plus days you will see 15 cruises available on 5 different ships. I hope they have this available in 21 years as I would sign up for many of them as the itineraries are very good and price is extremely reasonable.

Oh, really? In my cruise ticket contract, if I miss a port of call, I'm entitled to a refund of port charges/taxes/fees. Guess what that is considered? Trip interruption. In this case, the poster I quoted didn't believe he was entitled to any compensation. Carnival is extending a minuscule amount of onboard credit on a future cruise for this cancellation, to which this poster is entitled to receive.
