New Zealand Cruises - Visiting Hobbiton

Hi guys,

 

Thinking of doing a New Zealand Cruises, anyone have any tips on how best (and cheaply) to visit Hobbiton (i.e. from the movie lord of the rings).

 

I am hoping that I can get a bus from a particular port, or something like that.

You need a car or book on a tour. Tauranga would be the port stop that is nearest to Hobbiton in Matamata.

We hired a driver/guide that drove us to Hobbiton and then took us on a tour as we returned to port. She was excellent.

Did NZ cruise in Feb this year. We did a combined Rotorua and Hobbiton tour which we prebooked online. It was excellent and would recommend it. Unlike other ones you dont have to have a group to book.

Rotorua and the Waitamo Glowworm Caves (both of which within 90 minutes of Hobbiton) are really "must-see" places. If you can't fit them into a cruise, take a day pre/post cruise and rent a car. We drove in NZ (on the "wrong" side of the road ;) ) and it wasn't bad at all. Worth every penny.
