Warm Breezes Posted January 6, 2015 #177 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Honestly, I really agree with you in the end. I understand the bottom line. And I'm not leaving Carnival - there are too many other features I like. But I don't mind saying I'm going to miss the shows with live music. And when it comes to the bottom line, Carnival won't be getting my money in the show lounge with what they're passing off as entertainment there. But you are still on their ship and just because someone is not spending their money in the show lounge doesn't mean they aren't somewhere else on the ship spending their money....possibly somewhere where they would be spending more like the casino. TBH we probably spend less in the show lounge than anywhere else on the ship. If we have a drink there, a lot of the time it is one we brought in from somewhere else and would have had it no matter where we were on the ship. cruizinisthebest Posted January 6, 2015 #178 Share Posted January 6, 2015 I don't think your last sentence is fair. I don't shop at Target expecting to purchase Gucci. I sail on Carnival because I think it's fun, it's reasonably priced and fits within my budget. I have sailed on Princess and I love it, but it's not my cup of tea. You have and are entitled to your opinion but you can't (borderline) criticize others for the live bands not keeping people up at night because it bugs you so much. Sent from my iPad using Forums Agreed. 100%. I ignored that and many other put downs on this thread, so thanks for responding so on point. Only I will say that it's not borderline criticizing. It's pretty blatant. Carnival Corp. owns a variety of ships and cruising styles. I mean the majority of passenger vessels. Plus all the other ships out there. There's no reason to be unhappy. Out to sea! Posted January 6, 2015 #179 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Agree whole heartedly regarding the nightly entertainment.]We went on Sunshine to the Mediterranean and left each time after entertainment began, if I wanted to see all the comedy (adults only) or magic show, would not be viewing them on a cruise ship. The laser light show is not my style either. The atrium had tin sounding live music -not sure if it was acoustics or that I just thought it was the same chords being strummed. The piano bar room was jammed pack every night - what does this suggest? Certainly not the enetrtainment that was available on previous Carnival cruises. Good to hear the piano bar was packed, I'll be on the Sunshine in March and I've been on some ships where there were two people in the piano bar, tops, because the piano player was awful. Out to sea! Posted January 6, 2015 #180 Share Posted January 6, 2015 You are correct. If the entertainment was not important to most cruises then getting into the shows would be much easier. Sometimes there is hardly and standing room. I hope the shows stay crowded so there is plenty of room by the main pool for me to watch a movie on the big screen. :)

SunshineCruiser24 Posted January 6, 2015 #183 Share Posted January 6, 2015 The comedy show and karaoke were packed though. With comedy people were lined up before the current show was even over.
SunshineCruiser24 Posted January 6, 2015 #184 Share Posted January 6, 2015 And regarding the hasbro game show I've been super disappointed that it wasn't on my cruises. I'm definitely an adult but it looks like a blast. I LOVE playing games. Loved game show mania, too.
love my grandkids Posted January 6, 2015 #185 Share Posted January 6, 2015 And regarding the hasbro game show I've been super disappointed that it wasn't on my cruises. I'm definitely an adult but it looks like a blast. I LOVE playing games. Loved game show mania, too. We have seen it twice and walked out on it twice. The games as far as I can tell require absolutely no skill. I can understand doing it during the day for a bunch of kids but on Conquest it was an evenings entertainment for about 75 adults in main lounge it awful. Since they keep track of attendance for their shows think they know it too. Game show mania is fun but in the past was a warmup for professional enertainemnt. As a main show in the lounge it is rather pathetic and so beneath what Carnival used to do.
cruizinisthebest Posted January 6, 2015 #186 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Hasbro is kinda lame. We saw it once, which was enough. Why go a second time just to walk out again? I don't see how they are calling this a show. Yes it's more like a warm up or a fun family activity. Matter of fact it should be a joint camp activity. My kids laughed and enjoyed it but not enough to go more than once. I'll probably skip it all together on my next cruise.
near the beach Posted January 6, 2015 #187 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Only four or five hours of a weeklong cruise are in the main show lounge. I would not miss a few hours on a cruise. I do enjoy the shows and will continue going to them. Every cruise I have sailed on has had live music somewhere on the ship. Many ships have gone to the not so good short playlist shows. There are some ships that have live music in the main lounge with their shows. Personally I like ticket to ride much better than epic rock. I really would like to see a list of ships with real stage shows and the ones that have playlist productions.

jetta8300 Posted January 6, 2015 #189 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Myself, I could care less if the music is live. I think that's true for most younger folks, we would rather hear our favorite songs than a live band. I know this isn't true for other generations, but unfortunately for many Carnival seems to be going to a younger target market now with their 2.0 upgrades. 7leagueboots Posted January 6, 2015 #190 Share Posted January 6, 2015 On a typical 7 night Caribbean Cruise, with 4 stops, a person will spend about 80-84% of their time on the ship. The ship is the destination, with a few side stops. Live bands, whether they are show bands, poolside bands, night clubs etc have been and are still a part of every major cruise line. Even the Casino boats out of Florida have live music. IF the only music is a DJ, or prerecorded music than it cheapens the cruise. 80% of your time, and all they do is play canned music? Anyone that wants to write, can do so today, and not wait until February. You can address it to any president, new or old, because it will be opened by staff who will compile the letters and submit it to the President. Is not part of the fun, the music? I agree, a live bank adds a distinct and positive atmosphere to the cruise.

Very disappointing as it was such an interesting looking space, really loved the themeing. When I was on the Liberty last summer it was the same way. Yet only two months before, on the Glory, it was standing room only from 9:30 onwards. It's all in the piano player and on the Glory, James Quigley was OUTSTANDING (sadly, he has moved on from Carnival and no longer fills their piano bar). S.S.Oceanlover Posted January 6, 2015 #192 Share Posted January 6, 2015 It sounds like CCL should get rid of the piano bars. That way they could save money by not paying the piano player. If only 2 patrons in the place how many drinks are they going to purchase? Bill

If only 2 patrons in the place how many drinks are they going to purchase? Bill no, it sounds like they should be more careful to ensure that those piano players they hire are the kind that WILL fill the piano bar every night, even if it means paying them a little more or offering more competitive compensation packages to secure top talent. a good piano player will fill that venue to standing room only every night, as a few of those on my cruises have (and i was there every night!). If only 2 patrons in the place how many drinks are they going to purchase? Bill Most of the problem is some of the players have a great personality and can interact with the audience well. Others have no personality at all. Maybe they should just do a better job of hiring the right people to begin with and not look solely at how well they can play a piano (yes, I'm making an assumption on their hiring techniques). Out to sea! Posted January 7, 2015 #198 Share Posted January 7, 2015 (edited) But if they got rid of them that would keep the prices down. Bill Doubtful as they will not let a room just stand empty and will hire some other person to do something else. But even if they did get rid of the piano player it wouldn't matter to me. I enjoy it but most other lines I sail don't have that option and I still sail those lines as well. RCCL has a skating rink, NCL has an ice bar, CCL has a piano player sing along. Every cruise line has something unique. See, that's the key. I wouldn't sit here and whine because they got rid of the piano player just because I enjoy it. It's none of my business how a company decides to run itself. My only recourse is to travel with who I enjoy the most for the best price. Just like it's irritating that on my last NCL cruise I could only get pizza for 2 hours in a day where I can go 24/7 on Carnival. Doesn't keep me from sailing NCL again on the same ship. If Carnival ever got rid of the piano bar I would still sail Carnival and still enjoy it. I would just find something else to do (as on NCL I just found something else to eat) and be just as happy.
