Pat_frm_CA Posted August 25, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 25, 2005 Our family will be at Isla Roatan off the Valor in June 2006. My son wants to kite board at all four ports. He will be bringing his own equipment. Do people kite board in Roatan? Is one beach better than another? Thanks for your help.
Island Dweller Posted August 26, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 26, 2005 I will be honest, I'd never heard of Kite Boarding before so I looked it up. I can say that I have not seen it here. We have a windsurfing school in Sandy Bay. But if your son is looking to jump waves, he better be hoping for a storm here, as the sea on the West and North of the island is normally quite flat. There is chop on the south side of the island when the trade winds are up, but it'll be quite difficult to find a launching spot for the equipment. I will be interested to hear what others have to say. Island Dweller
Susky Posted August 26, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 26, 2005 I think I saw kite boarders in Grand Cayman...but I see you posted the same question there (and at every Valor port of call). I don't recall seeing any of then in Roatan during my visit, but my time was pretty limited.
Pat_frm_CA Posted September 6, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted September 6, 2005 It appears that the kite boarding is pretty limited in Roatan and Belize. I am going to try to convince him to go snorkeling with the rest of family and kite in Cozumel and Grand Cayman where I think the beaches will be big enough to launch his equipment. or--he can always go kite boarding at home and not haul all of that stuff with him and the plane, to the hotel, to the ship and back! Thanks for the feedback.
