QuickieGlenn Posted January 5, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2015 Can anyone tell me if there is a beach in either St Thomas or St Maarten that you can get close to the beach or a bar next to the beach with a wheelchair while my wife enjoys the beach? lisatreasa Posted January 19, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 19, 2015 In St Thomas at Meagan's Bay Beach there are tables and benches just off the sand. The beach is not that wide. The gift shop/restaurant has a ramp that a wheelchair can be pushed up. I was able to go into the gift shop with my wheelchair. It was tight but doable! They have great t-shirts. Havensight Mall is right where the ships dock. I had my scooter and it was very accessible. I was able to do on my own. A lot of the stores that you will find in Charlotte Amelie have small stores here. If there is something you want but they don't have it at the small store, they will have someone bring it to Havensight location.

The beach right by the port in St. Martin has a boardwalk, bars, restaurants, shops. This is where the water taxi takes you. The water taxi has steps. HOWEVER if with w/c you continue past water taxi area and go behind buildings to the right where parking is and make a left once through gate , it is a 15 minute flat accessible, safe sidewalk trail to the same end spot. Just make another left where water taxi ends or where trail says "to beach". If you miss it and go further, you will hit main shopping area, 2 blocks too far. Boardwalk is fine. They rent chairs, etc, and lots of bars. You might even enjoy going down the alleyways to the main drag of shops and at the end there is a small "poor" casino. It's really not far or hard and sidewalk trail is shaded in part. Vicki
Atiyah9369 Posted February 9, 2015 #5 Share Posted February 9, 2015 thanks for this info. My mom(Wheelchair user) and I cruise together. We were at St Martin year before last and hung around the port and finally took a taxi to the other shopping area. Not sure if I want to do that in April. Walking to the area you are describing might be what we do this time around. Now just to remember the directions LOL!
