smdubowsky Posted January 11, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2015 (edited) Hi It's 6:05 and we are out at sea. Embarkation was a little chaotic but not that bad. When you arrive at the terminal you have two choices. Either go to one of the RCCL staff with an iPad and check in with them, go through screening, and get on board, or go through screening and then check in at the counter. It's a little confusing but it works. The Quantum is huge. Coming from Celebrity, it's a little daunting but we are adapting. The Captain announced that the Wifi is again free for the duration, Yeah!! The electronics are still working out the kinks. My key didn't work and the Royal IQ App is still very temperamental. I can't look up my calendar and I can't yet sign up my wife's iPhone for chatting. I am sure we will get it fixed later. The Wifi is faster than I have experienced on other ships, but still not the same as I am used to. The ship is beautiful. For Lunch we went to Devinely Decadence. Had the best Ahi Tuna Tacos. Going to rest before dinner. We are going to Chops. If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them when I can. Edited January 11, 2015 by smdubowsky Please correst. MADflyer Posted January 11, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 11, 2015 did you happen to notice if devinly decadence was complimentary, fee, or a la carte? have a good trip Funny, I was just coming here to ask the same question. As it is reported as $0 on future cruise planner bookings while still listing it as a 'specialty restaurant' and 'celebrity chef' venue, they have really caused confusion. I guess I would just expand on the question to ask are they still seating guests for breakfast and then still accepting reservations for lunch, even if it has switched to complementary? smdubowsky Posted January 11, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted January 11, 2015 We just walked into Devinly Decadence. For lunch no reservations are needed. The lunches are complimentary. I will check if they changed for dinner but when I called dining tonight, the only dinner complementary venues listed were Grande, Chic, American Icon, and Silk. iceburg1 Posted January 12, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 12, 2015 I asked last week and it's still $20 cover. When making online reservations for Devinly for our 1/23 cruise there was no upfront charge and it listed the charge as $0. We'll see what happens onboard. iceburg1 Posted January 12, 2015 #7 Share Posted January 12, 2015 Any idea as to why the internet is free again? Also, any indication on whether it may still be free for the next cruise on 1/23?
tarajean1962 Posted January 12, 2015 #8 Share Posted January 12, 2015 Hi you guys! I am also on this cruise and so far, we are having a ball! We stayed up late last night and I won. 1,100 bucks in the casino!! On a penny machine!:D We had a wonderful dinner at Chic! The food was delicious and we sat next to a lovely couple and chatted the whole time! Also, the Moët is still included in the drink package. My husband is still sleeping and I am off to get some coffee. Just wanted to check in! This ship is gorgeous as others have said. Tara

Also, any indication on whether it may still be free for the next cruise on 1/23? No idea why the captain gave us free internet again or if it will remain that way. He just announced it at the muster drill. My royal IQ app is also a little slow on my phone, but it does work. I am also happy to answer any questions I can. Tonight we are booked at Wonderland. I am really looking forward to that! Also, for anyone interested in our meal at Chic, my husband had salmon and said it was very good. I had the crab cake, which was spicy and delicious and lamb t-bone, which I ordered medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. karmacats Posted January 12, 2015 #15 Share Posted January 12, 2015 (edited) re the free wifi: spoke to one of the officers onboard last week and she said they wanted to test the system's capacity. later on, another officer said richard fain had been on the week before and, i guess realizing it wasn't working great, asked that it be made free to everyone for the next cruise (the implication being as a way to make up for it not being so fast - at least, that's how i heard it). our cabin steward told us (jokingly) it was for christmas. :D it may have also been a morale boost for the crew, as they also got the free internet. for us, it was fairly fast in the public areas (on android phones) but did not work in our room (7234), which was a disappointment. the officer who said they were testing the system said they wanted to know about dead spots, so we told her our room was one. hopefully it's fixed for the next guests. rene1103 Posted January 12, 2015 #18 Share Posted January 12, 2015 due the reason of high wind from the front (60mph) and fast speed of the quantum express (22.6kts) regular movement what you feel in cabin and on board. nothing to get worried about :-) Gesendet von meinem iPad mit Forums
Guest maddycat Posted January 12, 2015 #19 Share Posted January 12, 2015 Thank you for taking the time to post. I'm so glad that so many cc members are posting while onboard. I really appreciate all of the information. It seems like RCI is working hard to correct the problems that many encountered in the earlier cruises. tarajean1962 Posted January 13, 2015 #20 Share Posted January 13, 2015 We had a FABULOUS dinner at Wonderland! We enjoyed it so much that we are booking it again for my birthday. What a cool experience. Delicious and different food, incredible atmosphere and AWESOME waitstaff! We knew our waiter from the Chefs Table on the Allure.:D. It was the most fun and interesting dining experience that I have had in a long time. We are now enjoying a Moët at Vintages and waiting to go to the comedy show. GREAT cruise so far! smdubowsky Posted January 13, 2015 Author #22 Share Posted January 13, 2015 (edited) Our first full day on Quantum. As a background we haven't been on RCCL in 14 years and mostly travel on Celebrity. The ship is beautiful and feels sort of like a Celebrity S class on steroids. There are lots and lots of passengers. Today we saw "Mama Mia." Even though we had seen it before, the show was fantastic and every bit on par with a Broadway production. We were impressed. Last night we ate in Chops Grille and had an outstanding meal and outstanding service from our waiter, Schubert. The tuna I had was excellent and my DW said the filet mignon was perfect. Tonight was not so great. We ate at Chic and we were not impressed. The food was mediocre and the wait staff was at best disinterested. This was completely opposite of the night before. The one difference that I am noting between Celebrity is that I am noticing an inconsistency in the attitude of the crew members on Quantum. It is evident that at least some of them are not happy campers. This was almost never the case on our Celebrity voyages. Tomorrow I will be trying iFly. I 'll let you know how it goes. Was the tuna an entrée or appetizer? I didn't see it on the Chops menu as an entrée. Also, has anyone onboard been able to confirm that Devinly Decadent is in fact now no charge for dinner? We are boarding on 1/23. Thanks. Edited January 13, 2015 by iceburg1
