Velvetwater Posted January 14, 2015 #26 Share Posted January 14, 2015 I am not the biggest coffee fan and fussy to boot (will only drink my Cafetiere stuff at home or certain shops and I hate starbucks coffee). We were on the Legend last year on its was to Aus with supposedly aussiefied coffee improvements and the free coffee was awful as well as the coffee shop muck...even with the new looking Barista machine. If your Barista isn't trained well then the coffee is always going to be bad.
Sparky2 Posted January 14, 2015 #27 Share Posted January 14, 2015 We go to the MDR for breakfast every morning. Their coffee is pretty good.
Drazil65 Posted January 14, 2015 #28 Share Posted January 14, 2015 We order a pot every morning to drink on our balcony watching the sun rise, nothing like it! The coffee is good strong restaurant type, great first thing in morning.....:D
Butterbean1000 Posted January 14, 2015 #29 Share Posted January 14, 2015 We have coffee delivered every morning. Our main complaint is that is not hot enough. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
1midsun Posted January 14, 2015 #30 Share Posted January 14, 2015 I actually don't find the coffee all that bad. I prefer Tim Horton's coffee, and usually don't drink anything else, but it is what it is, and does the trick. Happy Cruising!!
legion3 Posted January 14, 2015 #31 Share Posted January 14, 2015 We've brought Starbucks Via single serve instant coffee packets that you mix with hot water. They come in several flavors and strengths. We've used them more or less on each cruise depending on how the coffee was on that particular ship. This is what my DW does except she puts the VIA directly into the MDR coffee. She brings her own coffee mug and has them fill it up and then she adds a dark roast Starbucks VIA packet. She likes her coffee strong and dark roast and this works the best for her. I don't drink coffee...yuck!
momof3cruisers Posted January 14, 2015 #32 Share Posted January 14, 2015 In November while on the Freedom, I thought the Lido coffee was greatly improved since my previous cruise four years ago. I normally find though that room service coffee and dining room coffee is even better, though this last cruise I only drank a cup or two in the morning with breakfast. I am actually in the minority who dislikes the pay for coffee at the coffee shop. It is dark roast and I dislike that. I prefer a medium roast coffee and that is what the lido coffee tasted like to me. I dont believe they will let you bring on your own coffee maker for safety reasons. I agree completely about the coffee on the Freedom although we ordered decaf 4 times through room service and three of those times it arrived cold. Not just not hot, literally cold. So odd. We just called and told them it was cold and they'd bring another pot. However, on the Imagination last week, the coffee was beyond terrible. Except the stuff you pay for. That was good. Didn't matter if it was decaf or reg. Or where it came from. It was gross.
campdaan Posted January 14, 2015 #33 Share Posted January 14, 2015 I don't care for the Lido coffee. Room service coffee is usually good. Same with MDR. It's been a ritual for several Cruises to treat myself to a Grande Americano from the onboard Coffee Shop. It's short money for quality. FYI. The Lobby Bar in the atrium usually has the same coffee machine as the Specialty Shop. Which is awesome if you have a Cove Balcony on a Dream Class Ship
Rare patrice1 Posted January 15, 2015 #34 Share Posted January 15, 2015 We're Keurig folks at home, strong blends like Sumatra or French Roast. That said, we temper room service coffee in the morning with Baileys and Lido coffee with chocolate self serve for a mocha latte and we're good to go, FWIW. :)
tropicaledrink Posted January 15, 2015 #35 Share Posted January 15, 2015 I don't think it's that bad from room service or in the MDR. I do add cream, and occasionally sweetener, so no idea on how it is black. Lido is awful. I have yet to find a ship that has good Lido coffee. I also pack Starbucks Via packets and a tervis. I'm a fan of the Iced Caramel Coffee flavor!
Sweet Dutch Girl Posted January 15, 2015 #36 Share Posted January 15, 2015 The coffee on the ship is just like the coffee from almost any land based restaurant...and the nice part is you don't have to pay a buck and change for every cup you drink. I gave up on expensive coffee a long time ago....unless someone else is footing the bill its like I'll settle for the house tequila instead of a shot of patron. And starbucks and seattles best and dunkin are all pretty mediocre house brands, nothing to write home to Mom about and the ships coffee is on par with them. CDNJehn Posted January 15, 2015 #40 Share Posted January 15, 2015 It's been a ritual for several Cruises to treat myself to a Grande Americano from the onboard Coffee Shop. I agree. Is be paying for coffee at home. I drink Starbucks dark, so attempting the coffee in the Lido buffet is not an option for me, too weak. I did find that the coffee served in the casino wasn't bad, stronger than the buffet coffee. Probably sits longer. I bring Via packets now...reminds me to add those to my packing list! Yellowbird75 Posted January 15, 2015 #42 Share Posted January 15, 2015 DH and I can't stand the coffee in Lido, coffee from room service and in the dining room is good. Guess we're coffee snobs. Normally drink Donut Shop from our Keurig. There is no coffee in the cabins but we order room service coffee every morning so we can have some before getting our day started! GranthamMommy Posted January 15, 2015 #43 Share Posted January 15, 2015 I can't stand the free stuff. I tried the Pay For Specialty coffee on the Breeze last year and I wasn't impressed. One cup and I didn't go back. Coffee doesn't break a trip for me, but it sure can help to make it. Coffee lovers should try Celebrity for the Café al Bacio. Sigh...... cccer Posted January 15, 2015 #44 Share Posted January 15, 2015 I think their coffee is fine. That being said, the only bad cup of coffee I ever had was on a United flight 20 years ago and it had a good deal of coffee grinds at the bottom of the cup which was awful. Than I would guess you've never sailed on Princess.....their coffee is somewhere between paint thinner and floor cleaner on flavor. And Frontier Airlines had some pretty lousy coffee as well. MCFTJCH2V Posted January 15, 2015 #46 Share Posted January 15, 2015  What kind of coffee posts are in the cabins? Is it possible to bring my own coffee to brew in my cabin? If you mean pots, there are none. But there's coffee and premium coffee ($$) on board. Whenever I have bad coffee, I just add more sugar.
near the beach Posted January 15, 2015 #47 Share Posted January 15, 2015 Main dining room and room service coffee is good. Lido deck coffee is ok if it has not been sittting for a long time. My wife may buy a cup or two from the coffee and cake shop. We also get get offee made from the atrium bar for less than the coffee shop.
JohnSpo Posted January 15, 2015 #48 Share Posted January 15, 2015 I am not usually picky regarding coffee but about 1 to 2 years ago, the coffee on Lido was bitter and just plain bad. About a year ago perhaps Carnival changed brands again and I find it to be much better. I always enjoy the MDR coffee. Once in a while I will get a cup of coffee from the coffee shop because it is really good.
IPlayWithString Posted January 15, 2015 #49 Share Posted January 15, 2015 I'm not one for fancy schmancy coffee drinks, so I can't say how good the coffee bar coffee is. I generally don't mind the MDR or Lido deck coffee though...it's enough to get me started. The last time we were on the Triumph, back in July, the coffee in the MDR at breakfast was so good one morning I ended up drinking 4 cups in addition to the one I'd already had from the Lido that morning because I got up like an hour earlier than DH and DS and decided to go for a walk. Later that morning, during the Fun Aboard/Fun Ashore show, the CD kept picking on me because I was bouncing off the walls from all the caffiene and had a high pitched (like so high only DOGS could hear it LOL) scream.:D
