Ex techie Posted January 15, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) Looks like Carnival have followed suit with DCL being the first, and then Royal to offer an on ship smart phone app. More functionality like RCI, but they want to charge $5 for the ability to text each other per cruise. BUT they have a, social media package, which enables guests to use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Snapchat and Pinterest for a flat fee of $5 per day or $25 per voyage during the initial testing period. Those who want to check email and surf the Web can upgrade to a value package for $16 per day or $60 per cruise. A premium package provides “the fastest available connection speed,” said Carnival, and is for heavy Internet usage. Those who want to use the Skype video calling application must buy the premium package. It costs $25 per day or $99 per cruise. All a trial at the moment, and will be interesting to see if those prices increase afterwards. Winston Wolf Posted January 16, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 16, 2015 (edited) Seems like internet packages at Sea are becoming much more reasonable. I know NCL is testing much less expensive packages as well on Breakaway. I don't believe it's been rolled out to the rest of the line yet. Here's a CC post about it from the NCL board. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2077809 Edited January 16, 2015 by Winston Wolf
Ex techie Posted January 16, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted January 16, 2015 Hopefully it will lead to DCL introducing a social media package at a reasonable price too. The one thing that isn't mentioned is if that package is limited to one device only. ex techie
