Disembarcation in Venice

We will be sailing on the Island Princess concluding our cruise in Venice. Our hotel will be at the Bauer Hotel. We will be using a private water taxi to get from the pier to the hotel. How does disembarcation work in Venice? How far must you walk from where the luggage is off loaded to the watef taxis? What time does the ship usually clear before disembarcation begins? (We will be in port the day before as our final port of call)

 

As you can see even though we have cruised over 30 times I really have no idea what to expect. Any advice or insights will be greatly appreciated.
