esdoorn Posted January 8, 2016 #76 Share Posted January 8, 2016 Ok on sea days let's say hit 15 drink limit, is it true you cannot buy anymore even if you pay for them? Has anyone ever had this happen? Normally I would not hit the limit but if I go to the club on a sea day I might. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk pre purchase booze or beer for your room from the fun shops. Problem solved! Happy drinking!
Piggsworld Posted January 8, 2016 #77 Share Posted January 8, 2016 for the round of drinks... yes its on the carnival website under FAQ (search Cheers). But I am assuming about the wine Thank you!
SNJCruisers Posted January 8, 2016 #78 Share Posted January 8, 2016 Here are other options. Choose to cruise on RCI, who does not have a 15 drink limit with their drink packages. Or better yet, choose Celebrity or NCL, whose drink packages can be obtained for free as part of ongoing pick your perk promotions. And if you come back and say price is the reason you sail Carnival, there is no way that the extra 350 per week for the Cheers program added to your cruise fare is still cheaper than NCL. I wish that was true... My retired parents told us the same thing... Carnival is "the unfun ships" you need to be cruising on a much nicer line. And I have asked dad to show me where I can cruise 8 days in April (spring break week) on any other mainstream cruise line, with 2 balcony rooms (1 for us and 1 for our teenagers) with tips, one excursion, and cheers for $4500 and I will book it next time. ;-) Edited January 8, 2016 by Piggsworld
Cloud9Family Posted January 8, 2016 #81 Share Posted January 8, 2016 Some people don't get examples like this, that come up in every type of similar discussion, because it demonstrates literally drinking all day. Who downs 4 beers over dinner? I like to enjoy my meals. I'm not filling my stomach with a bunch of liquid. By this example no it isn't hard to reach 15. And do so before 8 pm! That's a lot of liquid in my opinion. And over the course of a week, just can't see it. But that's me. Cheers offers no discount. Just don't buy it. After all, people who don't come near the limit have no choice but to not purchase it. If they can't modify the program to accommodate people who drink less, why should it be modified folks who drink more? I don't think anyone is asking for the program to be modified. 15 drinks for roughly 57 bucks is a good deal. Even 10 drinks at 57 bucks is a good deal. The point a lot of people are making is if I can purchase 20 drinks in a day and only get cut off if I'm drunk, then let me have my 15 cheers drinks and pay for 5 more. If I'm not drunk enough to be cut off. I think the reason they don't allow you to purchase more is because they don't want to appeal to the heavy drinker. If I'm likely to drink 20 a day, then Carnival definitely loses money by selling me a package. They want to appeal to those that buy it for the convenience of not having to worry about their final bill and maybe try new drinks. A lot of those people will at best break even. Some will still spend less money with cheers, but some will lose money. That's where they make their money. With the cap at 15, it discourages some heavy drinkers from buying the package and I'm sure carnival is okay with that.
Cloud9Family Posted January 8, 2016 #82 Share Posted January 8, 2016 As far as the pours and whether 15 in a day is just right or too much... I've had weak drinks, okay drinks, good drinks, and wowsers stiff drinks. All with the same $1 or $2 cash tip up front when I order. It not only depends on the bartender but what you're drinking and how long. Like others have said 10 or 15 drinks from 6 to 12 is very different from 10 to 15 drinks from 11 am to midnight. I have drank off and on all day on a sea day and not been close to drunk. One day on my last cruise I drank 2 Pina coladas during the day and nothing til 8 when we went to the bar next to the comedy club. 2 drinks in I was way tipsy! That $5 tip got us stiff drinks from that server the rest of the cruise. With drinks poured like that there's no way cheers would be worth it! But, that has never happened to me before. SNJCruisers Posted January 8, 2016 #84 Share Posted January 8, 2016 This may win the internet prize for the most irrelevant, non helpful post of the day.Congratulations to you sir! you are the winner of the internet today! The previous posts were regarding people lamenting the fact that Carnival had a 15 drink limit. All I was doing was educating those who may not know about other options available from other cruise lines regarding their drink packages, all of which do not have a 15 drink limit. So, my post was only irrelevant to those people who only cruise through Carnival colored glasses and have blinders on regarding better options available for savvy cruisers including no 15 limit or having the drink package included as a perk. simplelife Posted January 9, 2016 #85 Share Posted January 9, 2016 Waiting to get into dinner one night, we met a couple college age guys that were upset since they bought the cheers package and had hit the 15 limit that day. They could not buy any more for that day. What amazed me is they didn't seem drunk at all, oh BTW, it was early dining:eek: and they already hit the limit. One sign of alcoholism is consuming a large amount of alcohol and not "appearing drunk",
Sharkey shark Posted April 12, 2017 #86 Share Posted April 12, 2017 As stated on the carnival site. Beverages excluded from the program are: Beverages promoted and sold in souvenir glasses Bottles of liquor Beverages offered at the gangway Beverages offered through room service, mini bars and/or other in-stateroom beverage programs Sharing cocktails, floaters, pitchers, tubes and buckets Beverages offered through enomatic wine machines and self-serve beer stations All other beverage-related programs including merchandise, cigars and cigarettes Food items It sounds like you would be able to go to your stateroom before your 15th drink and order a bucket of beer or a bottle of wine from room service and it won't count against the cheers program. Has anyone tried this?

Has anyone tried this? There is no need to go to your cabin. You can buy a drink for yourself or a bucket for yourself or others or even buy a round. All you need to do is tell the bartender that you are purchasing that drink or bucket or round and that it should not count against your Cheers program. It just has to be done up to drink #14. Once you hit 15, you're cut off cold turkey
Drrandall Posted April 12, 2017 #88 Share Posted April 12, 2017 I can easily drink 15 in a day. A martini is going to have 2 to 3 shots in it. So u really only get 7.5 drinks in a day. I'm just going to buy 1 bottle of Smirnoff at the onboard liquor store for $60 and have it sent to my room in case I'm cut off. Maybe bring a little with me. Who knows. I'm sure it will all work out. I like to drink on vacation. Getting cut at 15 would suck.

The martini that you say has 2-3 shots in it only counts as one drink, so you can have 15 of those that would be the equivalent of 30-45 shots with your calculations. But I really would like to see you try to consume 15 long island iced teas or 15 Fosters Oil Cans (25 oz each). I doubt it if you could easily drink 15 of either of those over the course of a day. Then maybe it wouldn't suck as much getting cut off, that is if you'll even remember it.

We get off and have a few time to time. When we go on vacation at sea level we can drink like fish. I can easily drink 15 drinks on vacation from 9am to midnight and carry a little buzz. I'm no raging alcoholic but if I'm spending $6000 on a week vacation. I wanna have a good time
