orangecat51 Posted January 18, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2015 Hi, I am new to Cruise Critic and new to cruising....however, we will be travelling on a cruise in November 15. Booked on the MSC Divina, which I know is a lovely ship I have a question about the television in the cabin: I want to be able to plug in my own device to the tv to watch programmes I have on a hard drive. I believe that the tv's are in 'hotel' mode. Does anyone know if they can be unlocked and if so, what the code is? Many thanks

CruiseScrooge Posted January 19, 2015 #7 Share Posted January 19, 2015 i am not a audio video person so i'm just asking... since the system is closed circuit tv will anyone who changes their tv to the channel you are using [#3-4 probably] see the video? and this is why cruise ships, hotels, etc.. go through great lengths not to allow this to happen? back in the day when vcrs were a new thing in my college dorm halls there would be notices from the school to the freshmen asking not bring and plug in their vcrs but drunken nitwits wanting to see their porn did it anyway. That explains your question because you'll be spending very little time watching TV in your cabin. I predict that on your second cruise, you'll leave the heavy hard drive home!
Mikesa1721 Posted January 19, 2015 #9 Share Posted January 19, 2015 Davina uses a cable delivery system which is similar to the type you would find at most hotels. "LodgeNet" is commonly used to provide hotel information, on-demand services, etc. to the hotel guest, however the backbone to these systems is either a local cable provider or a satellite provider such as direct tv. None of this should concern you as you will not be inputing your device onto the Davina's internal broadcast network. What you will need to do is bring a few different cables such as HDMI and a composite audio/video cable. You will need to plug your device into a different input on the tv which will most likely be locked, "Hotel Mode". You would need to bring a Samsung remote as well as the instructions from Samsung's website to enter the advanced menu (only accessed with a series of different button presses). Then, you would need to exit "Hotel Mode". Only change the menu items you can understand!!! Personally,,I would just load my shows onto an I-Pad and then I could enjoy them anywhere on the ship!!
