Couple questions about Cucina del Capitano on Sunshine...

  1. Is it open for lunch on embarkation days?
  2. Does it have the same menu for lunch and dinner?
  3. does anyone have a lunch and dinner menu they can post?

We ate there twice on the Sunshine. It is phenomenal. I highly recommend the risotto balls, the chicken parmesan with a side of pasta and the tiramisu. Just arrive hungry because the portions are large. Also, JiJi's is incredible too. We ate there twice as well.

It is not even close to the same menu. I don't think I would call it a pasta bar, because the food is made to order, it is not buffet style during lunch.

As you can see, Carnival refers to it as a Pasta Bar.

does the 15.00 for dinner include tip?

The cover charge includes the gratuity at specialty restaurants on Carnival. However, many waiters will try to ignore the question as the receipt has a line for a gratuity. As most guests are unsuspecting with little to no research with an American tipping culture, it is a way for the waitstaff to take advantage of an opportunity to earn more money.

On the first night do they serve you free wine like they do in the Steakhouse ? Will be on the Sunshine

No, the cover is 15 per person, not 35 per person at the steakhouse. The 70 dollar tab enables Carnival to throw in a cheap bottle of wine, it would not be economically feasible with a 30 dollar tab

When you think about it, they really can. How many bottles of wine and champagne do they give away throughout the cruise and as gifts from the brand ambassador? Carnival is purchasing them in bulk at no more than $2 per bottle. They don't exactly give the highest quality gratis.

So the other nights where they don't give a free bottle of wine is $15pp? Or do they give a free bottle every night now? Just asking, because we're thinking about trying the Steakhouse during our next cruise. Cucina too since we'll be on the Sunshine.

Steakhouse is $35.00 pp every night. Free bottle of cheap wine first night only.

This is an untruth. The free bottle is extended to guests on the first and second night of the cruise. With that said, it has also been determined that this promotion is not guaranteed to be available on every sailing, depending upon the Steakhouse Manager.

It has never been offered on the second night on any of my past cruises.

Thanks. That's what I thought. Probably won't make it the first night anyway. The plan is for the middle of the cruise for us. Free bottle is irrelevant. Hubby likes Red, I prefer Reisling. They can keep the bottle unless they want to give us two.:p

As a convenience, from the brand ambassador himself:

"Our Steakhouses continue to grow in popularity and we are serving more guests there than ever before. As you know we serve a complimentary bottle of wine per cabin on the first night and now we extend the same to the first elegant night as well. This also now applies to the Cuccina del Capitano restaurants where on the first and second night we will also serve complimentary wine with dinner."
