dreday3 Posted January 23, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2015 So as I start my pre-vacation ritual of worrying about things that are out of my control months in advance ;), I wondered what people do when it's rainy, blah, etc on the cruise? Do you still sit on the deck? Do you get bored? I would think drinking is involved at some point. :p Our ship will be Freedom of The Seas. This is just a different type of vacation for us, where options seem a bit more limited if the weather is bad. Thanks!
JenInMD Posted January 24, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2015 They always have a lot of activities going on. We either spend some time at the Solarium, the casino, or Schooner Bar. Of course, it's always a great day for a spa day, too! 😉 Sent from my iPhone using Forums
cujosmom Posted January 24, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 24, 2015 On a cruise in October.... It was a downpour ALL DAY in Belize (the cruise ship snorkeling excursion still went). We were going to get wet, rain or shine anyway. It was a major downpour in the morning in Cozumel until around 11:00 when the sun finally came out and the rest of the day was sunny and nice. So we went snorkeling on our own in the afternoon. While it never actually rained while in Roatan, it looked like the sky was going to open up any minute. We still had fun on our tour and at the beach. :) You just don't know what the weather is going to do. Just go with the flow and always pack an umbrella. griffy116 Posted January 24, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 24, 2015 We had been in absolutely beautiful weather on a cruise to the Hawaiian Islands. On the way from Hawaii to San Diego, we hit the worst weather ever on 16 cruises. COLD, not chilly, but cold (April). Seas were so rough they closed the outside doors to the decks and the pools. Drawers in our cabin rolled out, then slammed into the cabinet one of the nights. I have to say that if it had only been one day, we would have been fine, but it was 3 days so we got a little bored. We hadn't brought enough warm clothes. If your cruise is going to the Caribbean, I don't think that you will experience anything like that. You'll be in ports. We didn't have that option. We've had rain in ports, but never a full day of rain. A shower and then the sun was back out is what we've experienced. On sea days, the Captain is almost always able to steer away from the storm and find some sunshine. We've gone on cruises where the forecast showed showers on every day for the port we were visiting and it's only happened once...and only for a couple of hours. It's just like what happens in a theme park. It's warm and EVERYONE else is wet too, so you just go about your business. Very few of the excursions close/cancel with a little bit of rain. jchiefs13 Posted January 24, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 24, 2015 In port it's probably still warm enough that - what the heck, enjoy the rain if it happens! Splash in that puddle :) Onboard there is always so much going on, no worries, you'll find something to do. Worst case scenario I wouldn't mind getting a midday nice nap. Go play ping pong, find the board games, learn how to play shuffleboard, sit in the solarium hot tub, walk the stair wells and take in all of the art on each level, attend something listed on the compass (talks, art auctions, dance lessons), visit the casino, visit the library, take in the show, get a drink and strike up a conversation with a fellow cruiser, and finally... heaven knows you have only eaten 4 times today, so stop in and grab a snack. So much to do - so little time! Judy

The Cruise Director will have many activities planned throughout the day to keep your busy. Also while at sea the casino is open and so are the shops. The pool deck is still lively even when the weather isn't great. The solarium and main pool do have lounge chairs in certain areas that are covered and some of the hot tubs have awnings on them as well! And of course all the bars are open so yes drinking is involved lol! Like I always say a bad day at sea is always better than a good day on land! I'm not going to lie, we are sun people and spend most of our daylight time relaxing in the warm sun, so its disappointing when the weather does't cooperate. We aren't into the "activities" onboard... we just cruise for the warm weather, beaches, and being on the water. When the weather isn't so hot (in either way) we usually have drinks somewhere with an ocean view and nap and get in a workout.
BekkaW Posted January 24, 2015 #9 Share Posted January 24, 2015 About 3 days out of the 7 on Radiance were cold, rainy or both. We played cards, went to trivia, hung out in the solarium, played tournaments in the casino (two of them were sea days) There are always inside things to do
