Navigator, Sideways Interior Cabin 3001

My DH and I are considering a B2B on Navigator in December. We have sailed numerous times on RCI but always in a balcony cabin. Due to the change in smoking rules, my DH has convinced me to try an interior cabin.

 

My question is about those "sideways" interior cabins. Having never sailed in any interior cabin, I have no idea if a sideways cabin would be better or worse than a regular interior cabin. If you have sailed in both, did you have a preference and why?

 

Also, is there anything negative about the interior cabins on Deck 3. My DH likes the fact that there aren't as many cabins on that deck as other passenger decks but I was wondering about any noise issues from the theatre or Studio B. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I wish I can help you and be Navigator specific, but I can only assume they may be close in size and layout to other RCL ships. So having stayed in other "sideways" cabins I quite like them. Enchantment and Rhapsody look like this:

 

So pretend you're standing in the hallway, you open your door, you enter the room basically right in the middle.... turn your head one way and the bed will be on one side of the room, the bathroom/closet/desk on the other. This first picture I am standing basically in front of the closet area and door to the bathroom. Note on the right hand side you see that tall thin closet... immediately to the right of that is the door to the hallway.

 

 

 

So standing from the bed looking back at the other half, there's your bathroom on the left, closet space center and desk right. I really liked this layout and found that center area mid-room more spacious than the typical layout for getting changes, etc (I pushed the small table off to the side or under the desk)

 

 

 

Having said the above, I don't think I'd like this lower 3rd floor location, but I have no experience there so maybe I shouldn't make this opinion. I normally look for deck 6 or 7 on Voyager class ships, either N or M class cabins which would be minutely more $ than Q class cabins I think... check your specific sale dates. 6 or 7 are awesome decks for me, very close staircase to everything on the Promenade (rather than elevators for absolutely everything). Just my own preference.

That's what I was referring to. He is a smoker and since he can no longer smoke on the balcony, we spent the majority of our recent b2b on Jewel on the pool deck. He's always wanted to try an inside for the cost savings and since our balcony wasn't used as much as prior to the smoking rule change, I agreed to try an inside for our next cruise.

my guess is that b/.c of this change they won't want to spend the money on a balcony since they can no longer smoke out there. that leaves the pool deck. so if smoking access is mandatory you want to be closer to the pool deck on 11. from what I could tell when the casino is closed in port no one is in there to just smoke.

 

Studio B is only rarely used.. 2, maybe 3 ice shows and one or two open skates during the day.

The Quest, 1 or 2 dancing type events (ie. 50's sock-hop or ballroom), dance classes (ie. salsa), I've done Zumba in Studio B in the morning a couple of times. Studio B also closed but in use when rehearsals are being done or they are installing/dismantling the dance floor overtop of the ice.

 

I apologize... I missed the smoker comment. If you stay on deck 3 you'll have to go up to deck 5 outside to smoke (can't remember if it's port or starboard, and can't remember if the smoking area is forward or aft).

 

Also if you're concerned about the "transition" from balcony to interior, I would recommend the PR cabins (Promenade interior). They are exactly the same size as regular balcony cabins with the huge bay window/seating area overlooking the promenade.

An inside promenade room, as suggested above, would be perfect. We had one on Voyager a couple of years ago and loved it. Great way to people watch, and also to see the parade, etc. without feeling "closed in".
