Kryssa Posted January 25, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 25, 2015 (edited) We are not interested in the amber museum or amber shopping. Other than walking around old town, does anyone have a suggestion on what to do? We are an all-adult family of 8. We love history, culture, and food :) Thanks! krillsister Posted March 13, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 13, 2015 I just booked a tour for the Curonian Spit which is a short ferry ride away. Do a Google search for curonian spit tour guides. Need to book early especially for large group as many only have room for
Pet Nit Noy Posted March 23, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 23, 2015 We are not interested in the amber museum or amber shopping. Other than walking around old town, does anyone have a suggestion on what to do? We are an all-adult family of 8. We love history, culture, and food :) Thanks! For people walking around the Old Town, you'll probably come across the sculpture of the Black Ghost even without knowing about it in advance. But I thought some might appreciate seeing a photo before they go and knowing what the sculpture represents. http://mw2.google.com/mw-panoramio/photos/medium/53337691.jpg The Black Ghost sculpture is located in Old Castle Harbor. Legend says a Klaipeda Castle guard spotted the ghost in 1595 emerging from the water with a warning of grain shortages and coming hard times., Sure enough, hard times soon followed. Or so the legend goes. Here's a link to the Klaipeda Tourist Information web site that includes a good description about the buildings and sculptures visitors will see in Old Town: http://www.klaipedainfo.lt/en/index.php?page=6&sub=
bohaiboy Posted May 11, 2015 #6 Share Posted May 11, 2015 The Hostel mentioned earlier has an excursion to a former Russian Missile Silo where you can walk around INSIDE the silos and see how Soviet life was back then for the military. These missiles were pointed at various European cities. There is even a tie-in to the Cuba Missile crisis as this installation was responsible for building a very similar system in Cuba. I believe for a party of 8 the cost is E230
lalawgirl Posted May 12, 2015 #7 Share Posted May 12, 2015 Hey folks! We visited Lithuania last summer. We took a chance on a guide from toursbylocals and were very pleased. We went to the Amber Museum first and then back to town, all by private van. http://www.toursbylocals.com/KlaipedaShoreTour Enjoy!
