forgetmenot64 Posted June 5, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2004 I have a problem going up & down steep steps. Does anyone know if the Serenade uses ladders or stairs to the pool? Also wating to do a helicopter tour in Hawaii, does anyone know if will be difficult for me to get into the helicopter? We tendered a few years ago on Princess & it was very difficult getting up & down the stairs to reach the tenders. Does Serenade have the same kind of set up, or is there an elevator available for people who cannot do stairs. Thank you for any help you can give. Queenie2 Posted June 6, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 6, 2004 Sunshine Helicopters in Maui has accessible flightseeing tours of Maui, Molokai and Hawaii. See the FAQ page of their website for photos of their boarding chair/lift for wheelchair-users. Some of the other companies will physically help you into the helicopter, but Sunshine is the one that has the lift. DEL67 Posted June 7, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 7, 2004 All of RCCL's ships have been fitted with wheelchair lifts at one tender exit. However, we were unable to use the lift last summer on the Splendor because they were using the tender exit without the lift. In addition, the crew at the tender exit did not know what I was talking about and looked at me as if I was crazy when I asked about the lift. Hopefully you will not have that issue on the Seranade. larderlake1 Posted July 18, 2004 #5 Share Posted July 18, 2004 The Legend of the sea and her sister have stairs and railings going into the pool in the solarium I cannot do the ladders either so this was a very nice treat for me when I found out about these stairs This is the reason we booked the transatlantic on RCL Splendor of the seas in Nov Can't wait
Splinter Posted July 18, 2004 #6 Share Posted July 18, 2004 RCCL (as well as HAL) requires at least 24 hours notice that you will require the tender lift. Even if you have discussed this with their special services office, when you arrive on the ship go to the front desk and ask to speak to a supervisor. They will have to make arrangements for the tender lift for you. Unfortunately this does not include getting off when you want, but when it is convenient for them (ie, once everyone else is off the ship that wants to go, etc.). You can push this, but don't be surprised if it takes a fight. When using the tender lift, go at your reservation time and report to the officer in charge at the gangway...not just any crew person. They will have to escort you through a no-passenger area to get to the tenderlift boarding area.
