nanners Posted January 30, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 30, 2015 I have a question about the Tampa hotel areas. My parents, husband and myself will be sailing out of Tampa next January. We will have a car. My niece lives in Tampa and told me the port is in the Channelside area. Is that the area I want to look for in finding a hotel? I see alot of people recommending the airport hotels. What is the best area to look for a hotel? Thank you in advance. Nanners
Victrola Posted January 30, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 30, 2015 (edited) There are several hotels within walking distance to the port. Marriott Waterside, Embassy suites and The Westin Tampa Harbour Island come to mind right away and you will find many more in the downtown area. We also like the area out at Rocky Point when we cruised from Tampa for a park and sail combo. nanners Posted January 30, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted January 30, 2015 So Rocky Point and the downtown area are good areas to look for a hotel? Thanks. Sent from my VK810 4G using Forums mobile app

Victrola Posted January 30, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 30, 2015 We are also not familiar with Tampa. How about the Westshore area? I really can't say about that area from first hand experience so not sure. I bet one of the local Tampa members will answer you very soon.
JohninDC Posted January 30, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 30, 2015 We are also not familiar with Tampa. How about the Westshore area? Westshore refers to the area near the airport - lots of hotels, a few drug stores, some dining options, and a large mall (International Plaza). It is a good area for those arriving late, seeking reasonably priced lodging, or hotels offering parking deals. Cab to the port, if the hotel does not include a shuttle, should be about $25+ Rocky Point is, IMHO, a nicer area with several hotels (Chase Suites, etc.) offering cruise packages including either parking or airport shuttles as well as port shuttles. The port is located in the Channelside area - some large, expensive hotels within a few blocks of the port include Marriott and Embassy Suites. Ybor City is another area - lots of dining and entertainment options if nightlife before your cruise is important; after midnight things can get a little wild or dangerous. Good luck! :)

I can always count on you for good information! This is for a last minute cruise in 3 weeks....:D. All of the hotels downtown near the port are crazy expensive! I didn't want to do Ybor City because we prefer being in quiet areas and are not really "night life" people. In order to accumulate points we try to stay with the Hilton/Hampton brand if we can and the Hampton Inn Rocky Point is going through some major renovations right now, so the reviews on Trip Advisor are not quite as good (although I am sure it will be wonderful when they are done). We chose the Hilton Garden Inn/Westshore because it got great reviews on Trip Advisor and it seemed to be as close as we could get to the port without the crazy prices. I am always nervous when I book rooms in a place I have never stayed before. But since we are only going to be there for the night I am hoping this area will be okay. Thanks again John for being such a great help on these boards!!
