I Need a Hotel in Auckland

Can anyone recommend a good hotel in Auckland?

We are only staying over the 1 night pre-cruise but will have flown in from the UK so would like somewhere nice to recover.

A swimming pool would be great. Something central as we'd like to get a quick look at the city before we head off on the cruise.

Hi Arthur, Re your hotel, a couple of suggestions. We have used the Stamford Plaza http://www.stamford.com.au/spak/ in the centre of Auckland [in fact we held the inaugural dinner for the Rolls Royce Centennial Celebration World Tour there in 2004] and found it to be excellant. It has a good roof top pool and terace. Its a short distance to the cruise ship terminal [500 yards i think] and very central.

The other choice would be the Hilton, which is in fact next door to the cruise ship berth and if you get a room on the correct side you can actually look from your room into the cabins of the ship. This features is in fact featured quite funnily in an advert currently running in NZ.

Both are obvioulsy 5 star rated but you should be able to get some good deals on rates via internet agencies.

To get from the airport to the hotel you can take a taxi, a corporate cab [a better class of taxi and not much more expensive, a shuttle bus service [cheapest option] or get the hotel to offer you their limo service. Airport to downturn about 30 min on average journey time.

If you want a more boutique style of hotel you need to be a little futher out but we can find some if you want.

Let us know if we can be of any further assistance during your NZ visit.

Ian Holroyd [Tauranga NZ and Warwickshire UK] currently in the UK.

Hi,

We used the Stamford in January this year, during a stopover returning from South America. Nice hotel, good rooms, nice and quiet. Fantastic breakfast! (make sure its included in your tariff).

Its very close to everything, with a pool on the roof. What more could you want?

Steve.
