moonshine1 Posted August 30, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 30, 2005 hi Does anyone know yet if the QM2 will still sail past the statue of Liberty, when the new terminal opens. This will be my time on ship and sailing into NYC- it seems the tradition to sail past her, but the new terminal is placed outside of the city. I am told she may do a loop round and still do it, but does anyone know more
Rotterdam Posted August 30, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 30, 2005 Depending how the Captain navigates the ship - you will be able to see the Staue of Liberty - but how close you get to it is another question. Currently as the ship sails to or from the Manhattan piers you pass the Statue & get a fantastic view. With the new piers in Brooklyn it might be a brief sail by.... One tradition that will be missed is the sail by the Manhattan skyline..the Empire State & Chrysler buildings & the rest of the most unique port in the world! Hopefully at some point Carnival will reposition Cunard back to Manhattan!
JGR01 Posted August 31, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 31, 2005 The other interesting sight that will be missed .. is the view of a BA Concorde on a barge as a tourist museum. She is moored next to the battleship and submarine in the river... MOST interesting photo op sailing away on the Queen .. which is currently operating and a grand deluxe way of crossing the ocean .. to see the former fastest passenger plane in the world that was the ultra rich way to speed across the same ocean .. sitting alone on a barge, forlorn and relegated to a thing for common people to gawk at. And both with a British heritage!
