San Juan - what to see/do?

We are to be in San Juan before long. Is it more of a sight/seeing place, or what would you recommend that we see/do?

Any FREE beach there?

If you'll be there overnight, there's a cool nighttime experience called the bio bay. I've never done it but it's on my list to try when we go. I found this tour operator highly recommended. You can also do a rainforest tour with them. http://www.kayakingpuertorico.com/pages/biobay.html

There's also a restaurant called Barrachina that is the birth place of the original piña colada. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g147320-d779529-Reviews-Barrachina-San_Juan_Puerto_Rico.html

That's all I've found so far :)

Many people consider San Juan to be more of a city break, especially if you stay in Old San Juan- history, forts etc.

The closest free beaches are Escambron, Condado, Isla Verde, and you can get there by bus or taxi. As a note, San Juan is on the Atlantic side of the island, so any beaches near there can be rough surf. Caution is advised.

If you have never been to San Juan, I would recommend visiting one of the 2 forts in Old San Juan (both in the US National Park System), walking around OSJ to see the beautiful buildings, maybe pop in the cathedral, and absorb some of the amazing history that the city has. It's a great place.

Thank you for getting back with me on my question.

Thank you for getting back with me. Are any of these beaches that you listed FREE, or do you know what it would cost to be on one of them?

If we took a Taxi, do you have any idea what the charge pp is?

I believe the beaches are all free. Here is a link to the taxi fare chart

You may/may not know this answer, but I thought I would ask.

In regard to the three FREE beaches, Escombron, Condodo, Isla Verde, do you know which would be the closest to the port where the ship docks?

Also, do we tender, or do you know?
