Alternative Transport to Galveston

Are there cheaper options that anyone has direct experience with? We have 5 of us and @ $35/each way that's $350 for roundtrip.

 

I can rent a car for about $200 but then have to pay for parking at the Port.

Is this from Hobby? IAH? Somewhere else?

 

The rental car might be nice, especially if you are going in a day or two early, as you can use the car to go to meals and entertainment.

 

If you decided to fly in same day, you could consider booking a shuttle (super shuttle, for example). If you'd like to cut your costs by sharing that shuttle van, you could check on the cruise critic roll call for your cruise; you may find others who would be delighted to share the ride and costs with your party.

My fault. We are flying into Hobby the day of, 8:55am. I might just check the roll call to check.

For an 8:55 am Hobby arrival, I'd check the roll call. You might find there are others flying in close to the same time. Or, perhaps even better, you might find people who flew in the night before and are staying at a Hobby area hotel. After you land, they could take their hotel shuttle to the airport, meet you at baggage claim, and your assembled group could share a van ride to the port. Cost person will be lower than cruise line shuttle, and you won't be stuck waiting for a big bus to fill.

 

Even if you don't find others to share the ride to port, for a party of five the private shuttle is probably less than cruise line transfer.

 

The roll call is also the place to seek others wishing to share a ride back to Hobby at the end of the cruise.
