Those cruising out of NYC this week and driving to the port of NY alternate side has been suspended on these days next week

Thursday, February 12 Lincoln's Birthday

Monday, February 16 Washington's Birthday (Pres. Day)

Wednesday, February 18 Ash Wednesday

Thursday, February 19 Asian Lunar New Year

So if your a little patient and find a Monday-Thursday alternate side of the parking around the city, you can save yourself a couple of hundred dollars next week. FYI

OP, can you explain what the alternate side is? We've only sailed out of NYC once, and rode the ferry over from NJ luggage in tow. Only saw the one port entrance. Driving to the ports is preferred, but we didn't see the parking there and presumed it would be prohibitively expensive.

Many streets in New York have alternate side regulations, which allow for street cleaning. Most alternate side parking signs are clearly marked with signs featuring a "P" crossed by a broom. Some areas have three-hour restrictions (e.g. 8 am to 11 am) but times vary considerably.

The City suspends alternate side parking rules on the legal and religious holidays and makes emergency suspensions because of severe weather or other emergencies.

Some metered parking zones have alternate side parking rules. When alternate side parking is suspended for a holiday or other reason, the parking meters remain in effect.

I wouldn't recommend parking on the street for the length of your cruise unless you plan on bringing a shovel :D

While saving some money would be great, don't forget that it's the middle of winter in New York City and we may be subject to a lot of snow in the upcoming weeks. It's true that alternate side parking rules are cancelled during storms (and usually several days following the storm) but then once you want to move your car, you have to dig it out first. If there was a storm while you're away, I don't think you'd want to spend your first hour back from the sunny Caribbean digging your tires out from ice and snow.

Informative & good to know, but NOT very practical for most out-of-town folks on CC here. With all that snow & ice "mounts" on NYC public streets, not exactly easy nor simple to find a "usable" parking spot for a week+ especially in Manhattan, and definitely nowhere near midtown as you are competing with local residents who prized these spots. Remotely possible in the outer boroughs where odds are easier.

Those parking rules were back in effect yesterday whereas many car owners seemed to think otherwise, I saw numerous cars getting ticketed at 9:05 am as they're technically blocking the street due to posted "NP" signs 9 - 10:30 am on the block. City's DOT also boot & tow-away cars to boost revenue as NYC can ticket AND tow for parking violations.

Circling around a given neighborhood looking for a spot is very time-consuming in populated places. We lost about 3 usable on-street parking spot on our small city block alone from all the snow still on the residential street, going nowhere. Then, one needs to get to the pier afterward and post-cruise, return to the vehicle and meanwhile, plus there's always a possibility it can be damaged by others passing the narrower streets We see that every winter all around here, buses & trucks squeezing and turning and bang, oops. Penny-wise and dollars-foolish: there are indoor & outdoor parking garages in "semi-secret" distance places at "better" rates than at MCT's Pier 88/90 if one is willing to go the extra miles and have the time.

The idea is good and I'm not opposed to anyone trying to save $$$ to offset other expenses and rising fees, etc. - just, IMO, not advisable.

As always, disclaimer that YMMV - good luck in the hunt for a parking space, best time to start looking for one is 5:30 am to 7 am ... for any chance of scoring one.
