Obtain cash?

Another option for not large amounts of cash is to charge on your room key card at any slot machine in the casino, play a few spins, then cash out at the teller's cage. No fee is assessed.

From experience I can say that it is not even necessary to play a few spins. Just load up your card and cash out immediately.

That depends whether you win or not. The 3% service fee could be cheaper. :D

Losing two spins on a 25 cent machine would be 0.5% of $100 ... and as sapper1 said, even that is not necessary. The cashier can't tell if you won a bunch and then lost it all, or vice versa, or didn't play at all.

We've never needed cash as we always take extra cash or if on a long cruise, American Express Travelers Checks which our local banks still sell & which HAL's Front Office will cash..

However, figure one of these days the banks will just stop selling Travelers Checks.. So my question is:

If we don't have enough cash with us, is there a limited amount of $$ that can be put on our room Key card?

On our 68 day cruise, we needed several hundred extra dollars just for extra tipping to those who made our cruise wonderful & would hate to carry all of that in cash if we don't need it for a while..

Thanks...

If you need loads of extra cash, maybe check with your bank about using your ATM card at a port bank. Know that BOA has several foreign banks that do not charge you a service charge to use the BOA ATM card. We have done this without a hassle at the port bank - we used a teller not the ATM machine.

We just bring cash as BOA no longer has traveler's checks, and just lock it in the safe. Do not like having lots of cash until it gets locked up so we split it into several locations - in our carry-ons, purse, DH's wallet, etc. Have never had a problem. There is also the safe deposit boxes thru the front desk if you prefer.

Sorry, I don't know. We've never done more than $300 in one cruise. They may want to increase your 'hold' amount if you want to draw a lot. Edited by jtl513

Can you buy as little as $25? Suppose I wanted to play the slots and needed or wanted that amount?
Sure, and the slots also take cash. I don't know what the minimum bill is that they will accept, but DW often starts her cruise by putting in a $20 bill the first night.
