Smoking not allowed on balconies on all Carnival ships?

I just read an article that as of Oct. 2014 smoking on balconies is not allowed on all Carnival ships. Just wanted to check to make sure that I'm understanding the official policy. and that this is true. And I knew posters on this forum would know the official policy for sure. My son and I don't smoke, but DH does, so in the past if we've cruised we got a balcony for him.

Our last cruise was March 2014, so I didn't know anything had changed??

We have an offer for a free cruise for two, but if the only place DH can smoke is the casino and an outer deck, I think we'll pass and do something else for vacation (spring break 2016) instead. // lol -- afraid with that policy I won't see much of DH and that he'll spend more time in the casino than I'd prefer, so I think we'll maybe just go to Orlando. Or maybe go to Puerto Vallarta again -- that's where we're going next month. // If smoking is still allowed on balconies, though, I think we'd do the cruise -- too good an offer to pass up and we do like cruising (have enjoyed four other Carnival cruises in the past, so do definitely like the brand and product.) // We could always go on a different cruise line, but for us the freebie incentive more than anything else is what got us to consider a cruise vs. land vacation.

Yes, this is true. No more smoking on ANY balconies.

However, with that being said, there are other places for him to smoke besides the casino.

Since the new balcony rule, each ship has a nice smoking area set up on one of the outer decks.

And there are a couple of other random locations throughout the ship.

Hope this helps.

Which ship were you looking at?

Thanks for the clarification everyone and the kind words. I appreciate your taking the time to post.

The free cruise is DH and a guest, so no girls only cruise or just me and my son.

I did some more looking, and it appears that Holland America is the one mainstream cruise line that at least for now still allows smoking on balconies. I hear that they are know for their wonderful Alaskan cruises, so maybe we'll look at that for a future vacation. I believe that they are owned by Carnival Corporation too.

I talked to DH, and with smoking on one side of the ship in a decent common area and in the casino, he still has the cruise with nice freebie incentive offer on the radar. He told me he's used to needing to go out to smoke at hotels etc. so even though this is inconvenient it's not a deal breaker. He says it will also get him into the common areas more and mingling with other passengers. The freebie offer that saves a little on expenses I think is enough to make him go for a cruise

-- A Caribbean cruise on the Breeze, Dream, or Magic is DS (19)s choice for spring break next year (so those are the one's we'll consider)

-- DH is fine with any of DS's choices.

-- We'll probably have a family vote and end up cruising.

(I'm the only one with a lack of enthusiasm for this plan. I'm afraid I'll see less of DH than I'd prefer with the balcony smoking restrictions, and I'm not as keen on the Caribbean as with the mosquitoes and risks of Chikungunya. Means I'll be using a lot of Deet spray, and I hate the stuff. So that on top of no balcony smoking for DH puts a bit of a damper on the trip for me. Still, though, if we do it, it will be a decent trip I'm sure. My pick lol was to stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge at Disney for a mini stay, and do two cool tours -- The Wild Africa Trek and the Keys to the Kingdom tour. Although DH and DS both think that sounds good too, I think I'll be outvoted. And I can live with that. I'm just happy to be in the position to have a problem like where to go for spring break and have the funds to do something frivolous and fun in the family budget.

Thanks again for the info.

The mosquitoes that carry the Chikungunya have now been found in FL, too. We have been to 8 of the islands since November. The CDC alert was in effect. I took the 98% Deet repellent that was recommended. I also took the Repel Lemon Eucalyptus insect repellent that was recommended. We were there during daytime hours and never saw mosquitoes.

have fun whatever you decide to do.

Well I hope this works out for you. As another poster notes seeing a mosquito with the day time port hours is not realistic - the come out at dusk. After 10+ cruises in the islands I never had a bite and I spend all summer in VA covered in them. I tell everyone it's because I am so sweet! But not matter how much I say that it is obvious that is NOT the flavor VA Mosquitos like!

Anyway, as for concerns with smoking, why can't you take a stroll with DH when he goes to smoke? Also, I would talk to him about your concerns - communication might easy your fears - after all - this is a FREE cruise and in my book pretty hard to pass up!
