Rare Saint Greg Posted September 4, 2017 #376 Share Posted September 4, 2017 Saint Greg.....I have read the first couple of pages of this thread then jumped to page 18 to finish the read. YOU seem to be the "go to" guy regarding hotels on the past few pages. I don't do any of the online hotel sites, but I am very interested in a hotel close to the pier that the Carnival Dream will be. We will fly in the day before the cruise and not renting a car. The streetcar interests me for a tour around the area, but I am hoping that Carnival will offer a tour after the cruise on the way to the airport. I think that the Hilton Garden Inn Convention Center or the Renaissance New Orleans might fit, what do you think?? Thank you for your help. We will be flying in on June 2, 2018. My recommendation would be Hilton Riverside. It's a super nice hotel. There's a streetcar stop right outside that will take you to the french quarter. There's a nice seafood restaurant (drago's) right in the hotel. The hotel is connected to the riverwalk mall..and you can actually get to the cruise port by walking through the mall. I believe they also have a shuttle service to/from the airport for a fee. I'm not sure where it stacks up against cab, uber, lyft prices...may or may not be worth it. If you are interested in Riverside you can get it on hotwire for $105 for your night. It's the 4* French Quarter/Mississippi River hotel with 90% recommendation. The convention center hotels would be fine but you'd have to actually walk a few blocks to get to a streetcar stop to go anywhere.
Rare Saint Greg Posted September 4, 2017 #377 Share Posted September 4, 2017 Hey! SaintGreg and all - welcome any recommendations for a hotel for our Disembarkation day in New Orleans Nov 1-2 - looking for best value for the money max budget is $250 and looking for a hotel that will possibly accommodate an extremely early check in around 11. Willing to roll the dice with hotwire or book direct.. Riverfront/Quarter/Warehouse districts all okay. During football season I frequently show up at hotels in New Orleans on Sunday around 10am and say i'd like to check in now if possible. While I don't think any of them advertise a check-in that early. I'd say 70% of the time they are able to give me a room...and 30% of the time they have a bellman lock my bags up and call or text me when the room is ready which is usually within an hour...noon at the latest. If you are interested in staying on Bourbon Street you have a couple of nice options on hotwire. 3* French Quarter-Bourbon Street with 95% recommendation for $110 on hotwire. I think what you have there is Four Points Sheraton which is right on Bourbon Street. 4.5* French Quarter-Bourbon Street with 95% recommendation for $194 - Royal Sonesta (on Bourbon Street) 4* French Quarter-Bourbon Street with 80% rec for $193 would be Astor Crowne Plaza which is basically on the corner of Canal and Bourbon. If that's too close to the action I think that 3.5* FQ-Miss River with 90% rec for $121 is the Double Tree. 4* warehouse district 85% rec for $134 should be The Old No. 77 Hotel and Chandlery 3* warehouse district 85% rec $204 should be Stay Bridge Suites Those are some of the Hotwire ones. Just looking straight up on hotels.com That old No. 77 is $159 Bourbon Orleans which is on Bourbon Street..but down on the far edge of the action...is $219 The Blake Hotel $171 Harrahs Casino $214 Hotel Provincial $189 Omni Royal $251 Astor Crowne Plaza $
ggarriso Posted September 4, 2017 #378 Share Posted September 4, 2017 4.5* French Quarter-Bourbon Street with 95% recommendation for $194 - Royal Sonesta (on Bourbon Street) I had a feeling that might be the Sonesta :) - gonna go with that, thanks SG ! beaucajun Posted September 7, 2017 #380 Share Posted September 7, 2017 I had a feeling that might be the Sonesta :) - gonna go with that, thanks SG ! And just a heads up for those who will choose to stay on Bourbon Street. There is a large re-construction project currently going on. Several blocks of the street are closed off. The sidewalks in those sections are open. Currently they are working the area in front of the Royal Sonesta. It's a mess. Enjoy your stay.

Carriecruises Posted September 15, 2017 #382 Share Posted September 15, 2017 I've had good and bad experiences on hotwire. But as I've gotten better at it I've really minimized the bad experiences. Most of the time I can figure out the hotel ahead of time and do my own research on it. If I am going in blind, I've found that I've never had a bad experience with a hotel that has at least 85% recommendation. Don't fall for higher stars and lower recommendations. Most of my problems have been when I've booked say a 3* with something like a 65% recommendation. You'll find a 2.5* with 95% recommendation will be a lot better. It'll be a nice comfort suites or something. Check out the Hilton Garden Inn Convention Center and see what you think about it. It's one of the closer hotels to the cruise port. It's also right by Fulton Parking garage which is the facility I use for cruise parking. But it's not the closest to the French Quarter. You'd be looking at a 10-12 block walk to the French Quarter..or a 3-4 block walk to the Julia Street Streetcar stop. That hotel is $76 for your night. It's the 3.5 star warehouse district with 85% recommendation. I'll give you the other ones that are under $200. You didn't say if you needed one bed or two. I'll look at both. For some hotels the price goes up for two beds. You can ensure two beds by searching for 2 adults, 2 children. If you just need one bed just search for 2 adults no children. The Hilton Garden Inn price stays the same with either search. Here are my best guesses on the under $200 hotwire hotels. 2 adults (one bed) $76 Warehouse District 3.5* 85% recommendation - Hilton Garden Inn Convention Center $141 Warehouse District 4* 85% recommendation - Old No. 77 Hotel & Chandlery $157 Downtown/Superdome 4* 75% recommendation - Le Pavillion $180 French Quarter/Mississippi River 4* 90% recommendation - Omni Riverfront $187 Warehouse District 3* 95% recommendation - Hampton Inn Convention Center $191 Downtown/Superdome 4* 90% recommendation - Renaissance New Orleans Pere Marquette $192 French Quarter/Bourbon Street 4* 90% recommendation - Sheraton 2 adults 2 children (two beds) $76 Warehouse District 3.5* 85% recommendation - Hilton Garden Inn Convention Center $157 Downtown/Superdome 4* 75% recommendation - Le Pavillion $187 Warehouse District 3* 95% recommendation - Hampton Inn Convention Center $191 Downtown/Superdome 4* 90% recommendation - Renaissance New Orleans Pere Marquette $192 French Quarter/Bourbon Street 4* 90% recommendation - Sheraton $180 French Quarter/Mississippi River 4* 90% recommendation - Omni Riverfront $192 French Quarter/Bourbon Street 4* 90% recommendation - Sheraton Is this Sheraton (Four Points on Bourbon)? Jackie81 Posted September 30, 2017 #388 Share Posted September 30, 2017 Saint Greg, I need your help. I've studied everything you've said but I'm having a difficult time. Hubby and I are sailing on the Dream on the 21st of January and will arrive in NO mid morning on the 20th. Trying to eliminate taking a taxi or shuttle to the port. I read what you put about Hilton Riverside but am not sure that it's even coming up on Hotwire as the only 4* I see has 80% and not an 85. I'm hoping to book that hotel. Also, while we don't wanna do a taxi or shuttle to the port, we aren't against it to sightsee, but are wondering if Bourbon Street and the French Quarter are in walking distance? We know NOTHING about the area other then what we've seen on TV. Thanks.

If you want to keep checking back just look for 4* in French Quarter/Mississippi River with 90% recommendation that has spa services and tennis nearby as amenities. If you want to book something now, I would look at what is currently out there as a 4* FQ/Mississippi River with 90% recommendation and Pet Friendly as an amenity for $160. That should be Omni Riverfront which is directly across from the mall where you walk to the port. Actually it's probably a shorter walk than from Hilton Riverside. What you would do is just walk across the street through that parking lot. And there's a covered escalator going up into the mall. Once in the mall just walk straight ahead to the doors on the riverside and take a right. That will take you to the port. As for walking distance to the french quarter and bourbon street...You're talking like 8 blocks to Bourbon Street...10 blocks to Jackson Square. Tofutti Posted October 8, 2017 #390 Share Posted October 8, 2017 Saint Greg, thank you so much for your info with hotwire! I acquired accommodations at the Hilton Riverside for Feb 17 for only $138 (before taxes) only knowing what you had about the French Quarter/Mississippi river, 90% reviews, 4 star rating. I figured I would get the Omni or Hilton. I'm so excited!! Thanks again for helping so much on Cruise Critic!

Recommend both. They are only a couple blocks away from each other and there are a bunch of great restaurants around there. MikeMA Posted October 19, 2017 #397 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Hi Saint Greg, Quick question I am sailing on the Carnival Dream next Aug 12. I would like to book the Hilton Riverside or the Omni as after reading the Forums it looks as those are the best options for us. We are trying to stay close to the port and under $140 / night. My question is on the Hotwire site it tells me the Hilton Riverside is sold out for the 11th. But when I look under hot rates its offering the 4 star 90% recommended hotel in French Quarter-Mississippi River. Is this possible? I have never used hotwire and don't want to get stuck in a hotel that doesn't fit our needs. Any feedback is appreciated
