Rostock

Recommended Posts

Has anyone been to Rostock? We are docked there from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. We have decided not to take a Berlin tour. We are considering going to Leubeck. Does anyone know the distance and length of train ride from Rostock to Leubeck? Did anyone just spend a day in the Rostock area and if so, what is it like? Thanks in advance for any information.

We were in Rostock in May of this year. We spent most of the morning around the city square. It is about 4 square blocks of shops with no cars. At the edge ofd the square is an old church with the worlds oldest astronomical clock. It is free and the old church is marvelous.

We took a train to Warnamunde. Twenty miles, about 3.70 each person round trip. Warnamunde was really far more fun than Rostock. It is built around a canal and is just delightful.

Warnemunde is fun and you can go to the beach. There'sa boardwalk and it's interesting. Princess runs a bus every 1/2 hour back and forth from warnemunde. We took the shipstour in the morning that went on the narrow gauge train and stopped at a few sites and then went to Warnemunde (pronounced Varnemunda) in the afternoon and walked on the boardwalk, then by the canal and then had dinner across from the lighthouse at the end of the boardwalk. 3 or 4 hours there is good unless you want to go to the beach or walk alot.

On our ship, all the trains that went to Berlin got back late (after 10pm) and everyone was really upset. I'm glad we didn't go to Berlin because it seemed like a really long long day. Also, by the time you get to Germany you are tired from all the other ports you've visited and it's a nice place to relax and just be low key without all the rush rush of the tours and getting up early..
