Hiking Day trip from Portsmouth

Any advice about how to get to the Seven Sisters (?). Is there lodging nearby?

You would need to take a train to Eastbourne; trains every half hour or so - fare around £25 return. No need to book in advance.

 

If you wanted to stay in Eastbourne, I have no doubt that there are many B&Bs to suit all pockets.

A hiking day trip from Portsmouth to the Sever Sisters? According to Google maps, it will take over 20 hours on foot.

Train from Portsmouth to Brighton, journey time approx. 1 hr 20mins, fare from £15 e/w (or same-day return for same money).

Plenty of accommodation in bohemian Brighton, it's one of Londoners' favourite seaside resorts. Interesting town, too.

 

Bob mentioned Eastbourne - it's at the other end of that bus route & closer to Beachy Head & Seven Sisters. So you could alternatively make Eastbourne your base, but that would mean switching trains in Brighton. And due respect to Eastbourne but it's more laid-back & genteel than Brighton, & unkindly labelled "God's Waiting Room" ;)

 

But.

It's quite a haul from Portsmouth, and Portsmouth itself has a great deal to offer including hiking on & the other side of Portsdown Hill, which runs along the back of the city.

No cliffs, & not as spectacular as the Seven Sisters.

Yes - as always JB has the correct advice. I failed to note the train change, so of course Brighton would be the better choice.
