No escape from snow! This was on the Big Island in Hawaii in May 2002. True, we were at 13,784 ft., but still...snow...Hawaii...!

How did you find this shot so quickly to be part of this thread? What kind of cataloging(sp?) system do you use?

I notice on your signature you have alaska for 2008 with a ? I too am thinking alaska in 08 but dont know what time of year is the best time to cruise alaska and what cruise line are you looking into?? My DH wants to go so Im going to go with him... Im more the white sand blue waters type of gal.... which I also plan to visit a white sand blue water type of place in 08 too.... thanks

Dee Dee,you will LOVE Alaska! I too like warmer weather climates,but our Alaska cruise was one of our favs so far! We went about three years ago this coming May.We were there the end of May and first part of June and it was the warmest weather they have had in like 40 years.It was awesome! We did a float plane with a landing and got to get out for about 30 mins on the land to explore some! But the best was the Helicopter/Glacier trek.That was the best experience ever! And it was so beautiful!

 

We did the Mercury but the only thing I regret was just taking a cruise.I wish I had done some research and added a land tour to the cruise.But,we do plan on going back in the next couple of years.

Thanks Dot... But last night DH said that before we go to Alaska we will be going to the caribbean again with the kids so I know have to find the perfect cruise for us.... I want to do the Destiny but Im thinking that her new itinerary is too port intensive for the kiddies their ages will be 6 11 and 19 the oldest one could handle it but the other 2 will tire out so Im looking for something out of maybe Miami with a few sea days so that they may enjoy the ship....

I use Picasa from Google on top of a series of folders and sub-folders that I've used for years. After I go through photos and filter out the blurries and dupes from a trip or whenever I empty a chip, I rename the files individually for small numbers or en masse with IrfanView for large batches (A great image utility and viewer...and it's free!). IrfanView has a great batch-processing function that allows you to enter a name pattern like "Hawaii 2002 - Hilo" and ### indicating how many places you want the program to use for numbering then is adds sequential numbers to the name while moving it to a the folder you want it in. The image with the snow is "Hawaii 2002 - Hilo 033.jpg". Using folders and sub-folders made it easy to find an image by going to "Photos" - "Travel" - "Hawaii 2002" - "Hilo". Picasa has made it easier than ever to locate an image. Before I'm done typing "Hilo" in the search window, Picasa has located and displayed all 94 pictures from the batch. I have about 45,000 images on my system and without some kind of organization, I'd never see most of them ever again!:D

 

I'm a big fan of Picasa for it's organizational function, but many people use it's excellent image tools for retouching, e-mailing, slideshows and sharing online with Picasa Web Albums. I use PBase to post and share my travel photos because it allows more control over layout and design than PicasaWeb, but I also have a set of Web Albums just because it's so easy to quickly post a batch of photos to share. Oh yeah, it's all free too.

It is what it is, and you really do have so many great shots. I call 'em as I see 'em... There are many excellent photos submitted, but I haven't seen the quantity of theirs that I did with yours. Spent quite a while checking them out again yesterday and really enjoyed it.

DH had a video production company for 12 years, and I've seen a lot of photographers work, many without 'the eye'.... You have that.... Okay, go buy that hat!!! :D

Here is a fun shot I took in Cozumel last week. We were on one of the last Texabean runs of the Norwegian Dream. A great time was had and this is one of the fun shots I got while stroling along the street in Cozumel.

Yours is from Miami... and I think I can see 2 cruise ships in the middle of he picture and another one in the right thru the cloud.

 

Mine is from Fort Lauderdale a couple of weeks ago... Can you spot all 6 cruise ships (5 big and 1 little) ?
