Cruise Director - Sun

Does anyone know who the cruise director is on the Sun at the moment? Or the Maitre D? We have cruised a number of times and it's funny how many of the staff you continue to run into again and again across the different ships. I could use the info to have a harmless wager with my travelling companions! Maybe who gets top bunk, with inside knowledge I should get the bottom for sure!!!!;)

We were on the cruise before Kazza and had the same staff. I've heard from someone who's been on Sun since then that Demo is on holidays and isn't on Sun as deputy director any more.

I found the Maitre d' to on Sun to be a bit a bit abrupt and not interested. We had problems with our dinner sitting - we had been seperated from our travel companions, who we'd requested to be seated with, and when we tried to have it fixed, he seemed more concerned with working out why it happened than fixing the problem and getting us seated together. Also, in the photo's from the Champagne Waterfall he had a look like he'd rather be somewhere else.

This was in complete comparison to the Maitre d' on Pacific Sky last year (who's name I now can't remember, Fabio something) who was young and full of life.

Hi,

last month (Cruise date 12 August), the Cruise Director was Dan sykes. You may also be intersted in a comment i sent to P&O and Cruise Passenger magazine:

Hello,

What a continous disappointment P&O Australia is turning out to be. Being regular cruisers (15 so far, and counting), our family (with my wife and son) didn't expect much from the latest Pacific Sun Cruise we did last month. After all, we in Australia seem to get ships at the end of their natural lives. But still, a minimum standard is to be expected.

Here are some of the problems:

- P&O don't seem to want to cater to repeat customers. Last year's entertainment on the Sky in August was exactly the same as the year before's (July 2003) with less "talented" performers. This year on the Sun, one of the shows was exactly the same. Luckily enough, performers were better.

- This was our third cruise (2003, 04, 05)with Dan Sykes as Cruise Director (featured in a recent issue of your magazine). As talented as he is, hearing the same jokes for the third time is tiring. It fringes on complacency and laziness.

- One huge concern on the Sun is the proximity of the video arcade (which evidently kids use) to the smoke filled Casino, creating an environment not at all healthy for the young people.

Despite comments on last year's Comment Form regarding the first 2 points, I was very disapointed that they seemed to have been completely ignored. What's the use!!!

Anyway, despite its convenience, I doubt we will cruise again on an Australian P&O cuise. We're off, in a couple of weeks, to a Carribean cruise on Voyager of the Seas. Now, that should be something!

They don't seem to update their stuff very often at all. We had Dan last year and were quite happy as it was the first time we had seen him. I can imagine after the 3rd time it would be wearing.

Our cruises were 3 years apart and we had still seen one of the dancing shows before. So that is a long time to be repeating routines.

Hi,

Ive just been on the most recenty cruise on the Sun and the Cruise Director was DAN STYNE

but im not sure about the Maitre d Sorry

Hey imgoing,

Did you enjoy your cruise? This is our first time on the Sun. Am looking forward to it. I believe cruising is still the best holiday even with all the problems P&O are having. If anything it is now even cheaper!! We had our Easter cruise on the Sky cancelled and picked up this cruise really cheap with our refund. Then used the discount P&O gave us on a Jan cruise.

Woo hoo.. Only two more sleeps to go!! Better go home and pack tonight.

Cheers,

Chaz

We travelled on both Pacific Sky and Pacific Sun quite close together - only about 7 months apart, and so it was easy to compare the two with quite a fresh view. There were some similarites but many differences.

Only one of the shows was the same - G'day, G'day, but overall the entertainment on Pacifc Sky was better than on Pacific Sun.

Menus on both ships were basically the same.

However, we found the differences between the two ships quite signifigant - and our overall opinion was that apart from the cabin quality, Pacific Sky was much better than Pacific Sun.

And the issue of smoking in the Casino affecting the Video Arcade and Gazebo bar is one that certainly needs to be addressed.

Jester, I felt the same, I had built up an image of my trip on Sun and was very disallusioned. Am doing same now for Voyager too!! Time will tell on that. Circumstances have meant I am going again on Sun too, will see how I see it this time now the rose colored glasses have come off! LOL Hope you have a fantastic trip on Voyager. If we only didn't have that Airfare,we could go on her more often.
