Though the Travelscoot is a very nice scooter it's not for everyone. Not knowing your mother's mobility issue would not suggest risking purchasing one used. The original model does not have a reverse mode so in order to go in reverse your Mother would have to use foot power which I liken to the "Flintstone Method of Driving" Additionally the travelscoot, whether it's the older version or new version does not have a flat foot bed and the seat does not swivel thus not allowing for better ease of getting on off the scooter.

The biggest mistake family members make is assuming they know what's best for the end user. Highly recommend that your mother has a PT assessment or at the vary least go to a brick and mortar medical supply retail to try out various type of scooters. Note the travelscoot is only sold over the internet.

I had found one several states away from me and I bought it used for my Mom.

She isn't totally happy with it because it is not as comfortable as the big or even medium scooters. Nor does it fold like a luggie or tzora. Instead it comes apart into several pieces and then has to be reassembled.

But no way could she lift any of them and no way could i lift anything but a travelscoot.

She isn't a usual scooter user , had only used rentals at themepark before. When we went on first cruise 2 years ago she rented a full size scooter and it was too big for her to maneuver and was a complete waste of money as she gave up on using it. She used her travelscoot a lot on our last cruise (last month) and used a rollator sometimes just for some exercise each day.

I had suggested she rent a travelscoot for the cruise so she could try before she bought one. But rental agent would have a full sized scooter brought to ship while a travelscoot had to be shipped to Moms house and then shipped back at that time. That was why my Mom ended up with a fullsize scooter at twice the usual price. I was not happy.Rental Agent agreed to ship my Mom a travelscoot to try for a week with me only paying shipping costs but I found a used one for sale before taking him up on his offer.

Travelscoot is great quality, really well built. Lot of variation of models and options.

http://www.scootanywhere.com/clearance.php has rentals and sells used fleet scooters

Their clearance scooters are Smartscoot NOT Travelscoot

thank u so much for this information still learning - and my mom never has used a scooter but thought this might give her broader mobility on the cruise.

I have the latest version of the Travelscoot and have taken it on a cruise and loved it. I now am using it in Mexico (I am here for the winter). You might have your mother try a scooter that is supplied in stores and see what she thinks of them. The travelscoot is smaller than what is offered in stores but it will give her some idea of what it's like to drive one. I find the scooters in stores to be very slow and big and much prefer my Travelscoot. It is much easier to turn and goes a lot faster. I can drive it in the airport with one hand, and use my other hand to steer my carry-on (which is on wheels). My husband has to run to keep up with me.

My seat was not tightened and it ended up being like a swivel until we tightened some bolts. You might find your mother prefers the seat like that.
