lovetotraveltx Posted April 1, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 1, 2015 Husband heard there is a food truck parking lot in Vancouver. Where is this? Is it open all day? Can we access with hop pond/hop off bus? Thank you!
Rare martincath Posted April 1, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 1, 2015 Unless you're in town on Sundays July/August, no. Unlike, say, Portland OR we have no permanent 'pods' of food trucks. What we do have (or should say, HAVE had - it's sponsored by a local financial firm so until it's announced as happening again this summer no guarantees) is Food Cart Fest, which has happened in an empty lot the last two summers. Walkable easily from Science World stop on Trolley (No other HOHO stops here), or a touch further from Granville Island (all HOHOs stop here). Simply follow the Seawall, it's literally impossible to miss the location. Previously it was $2 to get in, donations of canned food also accepted, or free for members of VanCity (the sponsor). Also a free (donations accepted) bike valet service in case you were renting bikes. 20 assorted trucks, so a good way to sample a few different ones if it's on again this summer. Check the website - it'll probably update by the end of May.

bondscruisegal Posted April 1, 2015 #4 Share Posted April 1, 2015 When I was in Vancouver this past Jan there were a number of food trucks located in front of the Art Gallery. Are they no longer there? I was planning on having lunch there the next time I was in Vancouver.

That would have been Street Food City, an even shorter-term thing than FCF (it runs during Dine Out for a week or less). There are usually at least two or three carts around the Gallery though - one or two out front at Robson/Howe, one or more at the back on Georgia, and a couple blocks east along Georgia to Granville usually two or three there as well. This tool will tell you where & when they're open and can be run as an app on iOS/Android as well as the web version.
bondscruisegal Posted April 2, 2015 #6 Share Posted April 2, 2015 Thanks, I appreciate the update. Will just have to see what's available the next time I'm in Vancouver.
scottbee Posted April 2, 2015 #7 Share Posted April 2, 2015 If you're looking for street food, do consider the Night Market in Richmond. Probably more than 20 food stalls with everything Asian. Easily reachable from downtown on the Canada Line (get off at Bridgeport Station). This is the modern China Town https://www.facebook.com/pages/Richmond-Night-Market/196335021681
xlxo Posted April 2, 2015 #8 Share Posted April 2, 2015 Food trucks are scattered throughout the city. But they do get together during special events. Use this site to eat your way around the city on the day you arrive... http://streetfoodapp.com/vancouver/map

Rare martincath Posted June 25, 2015 #10 Share Posted June 25, 2015 Meant to post this last weekend after seeing the signs up again - unfortunately starts too late for lovetotraveltx who I believe has already been & gone from Vancouver? For anyone in town on a Sunday afternoon from this week on though, Food Cart Fest has expanded further - music, pingpong, local beer & wine sold onsite, and actual Stuff To Buy that isn't just food. On a similar note, the downtown Chinatown Night Market has failed to restart again this summer, but instead there's the Plaza of Nations 'Concerts & Food Truck Festival' on the seawall pedestrian/cycle route by the casino on Saturday evenings. Swung by the first one last weekend and it does what it says on the tin - with the advantage of no entry fee, unlike FCF - and also has a booze wagon.
