Happycruiser10 Posted May 13, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Please tell which pink sand beaches are not to be missed!? Never been to Bermuda. So far everything sounds very good about Bermuda. But if we are only doing one beach in each stop, which ones are really the best? Thanks, Mary
CruisFran Posted May 15, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 15, 2004 Hi Mary, Horseshoe Bay, on the south shore, is the largest, and has all the facilities (bathhouse, snack-bar, beachchair, etc. rentals). It tends to get crowded when the ships are in, but, walk a distance, to the left of the entrance, and there's plenty of room! The sand is pale pink...most noticably on the wet sand, and very powdery. It is very long, horseshoe shaped, with smaller coves at the far end to explore...coves best a low-tide. Chaplin Bay is glorious too, (much smaller) and not crowded (it only has restrooms near the parking lot). Most of Bermuda south-shore beaches are down a steep hill, so consider that if you are walking up!!..they can be killers on a hot day! (Horseshoe runs a shuttle to the top..take it if you're traveling by bus...by cab no problem, parking lot at the bottom, and there are cabs there all the time). zoom06470 Posted May 16, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 16, 2004 One of the pinkest is Warwick which is a 15 minute walk up the trail from Horseshoe. It was noticeably more pink. I believe they have restrooms at Warwick but not much else. Also, if you do walk from one to the other, Jobson's Cove in between should not be missed. deedee666 Posted September 6, 2004 #5 Share Posted September 6, 2004 since i have a bad knee-how hard will it be to go to horseshoe beach--too much walking?
CruisFran Posted September 6, 2004 #6 Share Posted September 6, 2004 Deedee666, Would definitely recommend you do not try to access Horseshoe from the road, or back up again...either go by taxi, or take the little jitney up and down. Once down, on level ground, there is a long flat path (guessing 200 yards) to the beach. The entire beach is flat..so only you can decide how far down it's length you go. It is beautiful...do hope you can enjoy it!
Ocean Boy Posted September 6, 2004 #7 Share Posted September 6, 2004 Natural Arches beach is also very pink. I think moreso than Horseshoe. Unfortunately, I have been told that the rock formations were destroyed in the last hurricane that hit the island.
LuvMyVette Posted September 7, 2004 #8 Share Posted September 7, 2004 Hi Mary: My husband and I went to Horseshoe Bay Beach in July 2003 and loved it! We found this little cove to the right of the beach by accident and spent the entire day there. The rock formations are unbelievable, the water is calm and it's also a great place for kids since the water isn't that deep. We walked to the left of the beach and it was really neat walking in bewteen the rock formations. The place is clean, has beach chair/umbrella rentals, snacks, sundries, bathrooms, showers, etc. The funny part is that we didn't see any pink sand. Overall, it was a great day trip! Enjoy! margaretmerrill Posted September 9, 2004 #11 Share Posted September 9, 2004 Just got back from Bermuda. Went to Horseshoe Bay and it was pink. The day we went, there were strong riptides, and we heard over 100 people were rescued from various beaches, the most from Horseshoe Bay Hopefully, you will have a calmer beach day.
