willyt25 Posted April 4, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2015 From USA Today What's it like to be a cruise ship cabin steward? http://www.gannett-cdn.com/-mm-/94f37565c8756da22e3c5d2ec1af16588b83f570/c=85-0-592-381/local/-/media/2015/04/02/USATODAY/ExperienceCruise/635635872371088207-1369340610000-Carnival-Breeze-Tortola-61-1305231624-16-9.jpg When you cruise, your interactions with the crew can make all the difference. But who are these folks and what do they think of their jobs, their pay and their lives at sea? To find out, we talked to two cabin stewardesses who work for Carnival Cruise Line. Rare Honolulu Blue Posted April 4, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 4, 2015 Thanks for sharing. It's always good to get a perspective on some of those who serve us. This seems to be one of the nicer ones - about both Carnival and its passengers.

eponym Posted April 4, 2015 #9 Share Posted April 4, 2015 What this article points out is that cabin stewards are not slaved. They apparently make a decent living (enough to raise family and send to college), and have a split shift (millions of American's do). Additionally, one interviewed is nearly 40 years old WITH a college degree, and has been in the cruise ship cabin services business on Carnival for years! Good article. Thank you for posting. It may help to quite all the thread starters and posters on the board that have no idea what they are rambling about when it comes to these important service people's income and job. sjn911 Posted April 7, 2015 #12 Share Posted April 7, 2015 Great article....thanks and they work hard and long hrs covering long hrs...for "fair" pay of our gratuities and small salary..better security than some get in homeland..but do "sacrifice" for the time off of a couple of months I would say and need those at home raising the child..I say dedicated wonderful people who deserve our respect..cleaning up after and operating from the heart...Sarah
guxu Posted April 7, 2015 #13 Share Posted April 7, 2015 Pay comes mostly from pooled passenger gratuities. So when someone removes tip, it will hurt many people. Last year I had an older lady who was left in the cabin when her family went to dinner. This ...
