DatabaseQueen Posted April 4, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2015 We have just returned from a South American cruise with Golden Princess (final port Los Angeles). Had a wonderful time and would recommend South America as a great cultural experience, with spectacular scenery and dramatic contrasts. However we think the ongoing issues experienced at Los Angeles Port with Customs and Border Protection needs to be raised again (have also responded to an old 2011 thread about the same issue). This issue involves LA CBP having problems processing debarking non-US passengers. LA Customs and Border Protection told us that they weren't used to dealing with large ships full of foreigners. There were long queues (at least 2 hours) at LA CPB and elderly passengers collapsing, with no water or toilet facilities provided. This appears to have been an issue for LA CPB for at least the past 4 years (and that they have been unable to resolve), however Princess Cruises could have helped by giving passengers the option of staying on the ship longer and providing food and water until LA CPB were able to process them. I'm sure there will be more postings about this as we only arrived back yesterday. This is posted as constructive criticism in the hope that Princess Cruises will take note and effect policy changes to get around this problem. I know we can't do much about LA CBP practices. Looking forward to comments and other stories from fellow posters.
