Weena Posted April 4, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2015 Will be in Mazatlan next week and am wondering about 'walking' (if not too far) to shop and eat? Just Looking for simple ideas to soak up culture. -Maybe a Massage if possible. [emoji4].
kenmerloo Posted April 4, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 4, 2015 The ship docks just a short walk from the Centro historical district. There will be a bunch of people with blue shirts along the way who are there to answer questions. They will not try to sell you anything.

There will be a bunch of people with blue shirts along the way who are there to answer questions. They will not try to sell you anything. We were in Mazatlan in January. We ran into a number of the blue shirts, they are mostly expat Americans and Canadians and are very friendly and helpful. Have fun!
Weena Posted April 6, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted April 6, 2015 Anyone have a 'massage' in Matzalan? Last cruise a few did -On the beach-??-I think?? Should have paid More attention.

Once outside of the dock area you can find a mass of tour sellers, avoid them all ( unless you want a tour ) and catch a cab to where you want. Even as you wait, we found people trying to convince us to step into their car for a "tour" Maybe its me, but we toured the "central" historical and found some of the local stores/wares interesting but didn't see any massages. Seems like the beach vendors are where I saw them. Happy planning

Just Looking for simple ideas to soak up culture. -Maybe a Massage if possible. [emoji4]. Just back from Mazatlan, and had a great morning. Early start for a walk, beautiful weather. There may be a 'Blue Shirt" on the tram from the ship. Walk through the Cruise Facility out to the street and cross it. There will most likely be a 'Blue Shirt' on the corner with maps and advice, not selling anything, just helpful. Now there is a wide blue stripe painted down the middle of the street. Just follow it to Centro, the Church and the Public Market, just a few blocks past the end of the Blue Line. Up two over two blocks or something like that. We walked in to the Church again and toured it (beautiful) and then to the Public Market (Mercado) to wander through. Everything from children's toys to spices to fresh fish to half-cows layed out on the counter being butchered. Several places offering delicious smelling and great looking food. Busy places with locals. We carried Pesos, just in case, but ended up not buying anything. FYI, there are ATM's at the bank on the corner across from the Plaza in front of the Church. Off to the right as you approach the Plaza. Also in the Department Store directly across the street from the Church to the right as you face it. We walked back to the ship at a leisurely pace, and our walk took almost exactly two hours. Didn't notice any masseges on our walk. :( gary p.s. If you go on the Blue Line walk, say hello to Officer Mike, a very nice, friendly, hefty Policeman working as a crossing guard/escort on the busiest street that you will cross. Weena Posted April 7, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted April 7, 2015 Would a walk along the Beach in Mazatlan be the way to see "Massages" offered? 7 or 8 yrs ago we were in the MDR & table mates were speaking of their massages 'on the beach'. Don't think we were dreaming[emoji1]. [emoji79]
pulledporky Posted April 7, 2015 #9 Share Posted April 7, 2015 Can't help with a massage, but to continue on from the "blue line tour"..... We did as described above, super easy hike to the square, then the church, then to the mercado (anything you want to buy is available at the mercado). We then grabbed a pulmonia for $6 and made a stop at the OXXO then he took us to the water taxi. We went across to Stone Island and walked down the beach to Lety's. Can't say enough about that place - super fresh HUGE coconut shrimp and ice cold Pacificos, with your toes in the sand. Back to the green gazebo in the terminal for a couple more Pacifico's. Absolutely fantastic day in Mazatlan.

Water taxi was a short walk from the cruise terminal and cost $10 US for 4 of us roundtrip. Spent several relaxing hours at Lety's with good food and several cold Pacificos. How long was the walk from where the water taxi drops you to Lety's? My husband says it took him an hour to get to Victor's. This was a number of years ago. That doesn't seem right - maybe the water taxi dropped him off at the wrong spot??? He says he wasn't lost and didn't walk in circles! kenmerloo Posted April 14, 2015 #12 Share Posted April 14, 2015 There are two water taxi's. You want the one which is west of where you dock. It is next to the restaurant, La Puntaria ( spelt something like that ) After you are dropped off, it is less than a ten minute walk. The is usually a taxi waiting at the other side, if you dont feel like walking.

Thanks - that would explain it :) After the third time I mentioned going there on our next cruise he told me it was awful getting there and what a hike it was and he didn't think he could do it (hip and knee problems). Everyone here makes it sound so easy to get there I figured there had to be more to the story!
alexdog Posted April 28, 2015 #14 Share Posted April 28, 2015 Does Lefty's have any water sports for the kids (teenagers) such as paddle boards? If so do you remember the costs? I am trying to decide to book an excursion or do it on our own.

I don't know the prices.
jamesnnb Posted May 2, 2015 #16 Share Posted May 2, 2015 (edited) We were there, off the Crown Princess, last month and I noticed (however, didn't take one) a massage lady right in the terminal as you get off the tram.
