HackWeight Posted April 23, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 23, 2015 We heard about the new Star Wars Sea Day being offered on the Disney Fantasy, which sounds really fun. My wife is a huge Star Wars fan and we both like to cruise, so it sounded like a fun vacation for us. We've cruised Carnival before and were kinda disappointed with it, and NCL was actually pretty good, and we think we'd like DCL. Anyways, turns out that all the sailings that have the Star Wars Day at Sea all cost about $2,000 more than other sailings. I understand it's Disney, but this is not worth almost double the price. :( Too bad because I do think it sounds fun.
Ex techie Posted April 23, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 23, 2015 It's not a tax, just basic supply and demand. The other lines you mentioned all have many more ships to fill than DCL, and do not have a USP like DCL along with owning the rights to such popular movies such as Star Wars. I'm sure CCL and NCL would raise their prices if they could too! ex techie
moki'smommy Posted April 23, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 23, 2015 The first season that DCL does anything, it is typically very costly. This applies to new ships, new ports, new programs, etc. They do it simply because they can. Some people will pay it, and DCL is happy to claim the profits. Loonbeam Posted April 24, 2015 #4 Share Posted April 24, 2015 Look at the prices for the Dream post refit--- already seen a significant uptick, $100 for an inside since the announcement.
Winston Wolf Posted April 24, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 24, 2015 Those cruises were cheaper than the Eastern itineraries for a few days after the announcement. Once people started booking them up, they shot up in price.
mollyeilis Posted April 28, 2015 #6 Share Posted April 28, 2015 Yep, they weren't more expensive for the first day or two after they announced the plans. Then as people booked it up the price changed, just like normal.
