Adventure of the Seas Review 4/12/2015 (A-itinerary)

Recommended Posts

Lettrich----I posted this on the ports of call blog for Curacao:

It was about a 20 minute bus ride to the bay. Once there we were met by two guides. Both friendly, and did a good job explaining what we were going to be doing. The "aqua boats" are slightly bigger than a wave runner with a 25 HP motor on the back. There was a steering wheel, and gear-speed shift. The boats are big and heavy and hard to turn. The motor was slow and varied in speed. It was hard to operate and I am an experienced boat person. We were told there were 2-3' waves, we got out on open water and there were swells of 4-6'. We drove across open water then into a couple of bays were it was calm. There was a little bit of explanation from the guides as to what we were seeing but it was hard to hear them. We ended up in another bay where we tied up to a free standing pier in the middle. We had to snorkel off the back of the aqua boat, which was hard to get on and off of. We ended up snorkeling for about 30 minutes, and total aqua boat travel time was over an hour round trip. A real wave runner would have been much easier on the open water. I would not do this excursion again. Onlyif you are active and like the open water then you might like this.

I hope to meet some of you on the cruise. My Spanish is not good, but love trying to learn and experience new cultures. I hope if I meet some Puerto Ricans they don't mind my attempts at Spanish! We also love the people in Old San Juan. We always try to arrive at least a day or so early to just go to bars and restaurants and enjoy whatever festivities that are happening. We always have a blast. We've been on three cruises from PR and never noticed any one that seemed different. There are a lot of Americans :) including some who live in PR!

Hello!!!

I am Puerto Rican and I definitely understand that we are sometimes loud and especially when we are having fun, we do like to travel in groups and are very family oriented so that's why some cruisers do have some issues with us. However, I have heard a lot of cruisers say how much fun they have with us. We are very welcoming. When you cruise from SJ you can expect a lot of Puerto Ricans, especially during spring break and summer. If you travel during the school period, you do not see too many of them with family. You might want to consider that in the future. AOS is a wonderful ship and San Juan port is awesome. Please go back and enjoy!!. I find it difficult to find Puerto Ricans that do not speak English, we are a commonwealth of the US and now everyone speak the English language very well. Maybe they were the older generations (70 year old's) who even speak a little. My son is going on May 9th as a college graduation and I will be returning on October 10th and cannot wait.

Please have a wonderful future cruises!!!

Hi - after hearing your review on the aquaboats we will reconsider. We are a family of 4 & my kids are 12 & 15 and we may have trouble with steering the boats & getting on/off. Years ago my husband & I did a similar excursion but it was on a mini boat & it was so much fun - this sounds like we might get frustrated with the aquaboat. Thanks!

lettrich: If you go to Adrenaline Tours in Curacao website you can see a picture of the "Aqua Boat". I am not sure RCCL books with this company or another. With two young teenagers the boat might be easier to handle, but with two adults they drove sluggish. My wife was hanging on to me tightly and "commenting" so that was a distraction! Kids might just hang on and laugh the entire time.
