NOVACruisers Posted September 11, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2005 What's up with the paltry shore excursions from HAL for the port of St. John's Antigua? I've looked up the port of call on this site and seen lots of folks asking questions about excursions offered by other lines. Is it possible they will add any between now and December? Would love it if anyone has suggestions for St. John's!
NOVACruisers Posted September 12, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted September 12, 2005 Well Linda&Vern, I am beginning to think that the folks on this board are more interested in arguing with each other than answering any questions. I've been checking the Shore Excursion board for St John's on this web site and it seems that many folks do their own thing. The most popular seems to be an island tour with Sunny Liston (sights, shopping and beach) or day pass to Pineapple Beach. I think I'll keep researching, but think we're leaning towards the beach day pass and getting there ourselves by taxi. Everyone warns though that the taxi rates have climbed significantly due to the recent hike in gas prices. Hope you have a wonderful cruise! JimVrhovac Posted September 13, 2005 #4 Share Posted September 13, 2005 Read the post but sorry I can't help you out as have never been there. We went on the St John catamaran out of St Thomas (sail and snorkle) and had a great time on it. Don't know if that is the one you are talking about or not..... gizmo Posted September 13, 2005 #5 Share Posted September 13, 2005 Jim, The OP is asking about the island of Antigua. The name of the town is St. John's. Novacruisers, I have been there once but just for a couple of hours since the ship had problems and we arrived late. There was a complex of shops near the dock. There is nothing much in town. The island is noted for beaches. It is hard to tell of they will add any excursions but sometimes when you board there are excursions that were not listed on Hal's site. Rare boards Posted September 13, 2005 #6 Share Posted September 13, 2005 We sailed with the NCL and there is not alot of excursions to do, except island tours. As has been mentioned St. Johns is right there at the dock and easily walked. It is a typical Caribbean island town and we enjoyed walked throught the maze on one of the streets. We were approached nicely about sharing a ride of a tour of the island for $20 each, which did not take.

CruiseQueen13 Posted September 13, 2005 #9 Share Posted September 13, 2005 oooops sorry about that. We did an island tour in Antigua. You should go to St. John's Cathedral. It is just beautiful. Also, you can grab a taxi driver as soon as you get off the ship for an island tour.
NOVACruisers Posted September 16, 2005 Author #10 Share Posted September 16, 2005 Thanks to all for taking the time to answer. It is confusing with so many St. John's! It seems that Antigua is very laid back and just doesn't go all out with the shore tours like so many other islands. I'm sure we'll figure something out and have a great time! Stevesan Posted September 16, 2005 #11 Share Posted September 16, 2005 If your itinerary meets their schedule, Eli's Eco Tour is the best cruise/snorkel trip in the Caribbean. The snorkeling is first rate. The first stop is at a beach with snorkeling instructions for novices. The trip is excellent even if you don't snorkel. http://www.adventureantigua.com/
