Question about TWT thru HAL

Wondering if the bus that we take for Tundra Wilderness picks us up at Mckinley Chalet Resorts or if we have to take the hotel shuttle to the park and transfer to the tour bus. Also, what is included in the lunch box included. Thanks.

We arrived about 12:45 to McKinley Chalet Resort. AS we departed the coach, we were handed our room key & reservation time for the TWT. Our tour happened to be at 3:00 so we had time to go to our cabin, then grab a bite to eat in one of the restaurants. BE AWARE THEY ARE EXPENSIVE. A small cereal bowl of Caesar Salad was $12 (and that was 5 years ago).

There was 1 bottle of water per person. The SNACK consisted of a small reindeer summer sausage, a small cheese, a few crackers and a cookie. We had purchased a couple of sandwiches at the resort deli before boarding the bus for the TWT. Then when we reached the ending destination, we stopped for about 30 minutes and the driver prepared hot chocolate for everyone.

We had left Fairbanks that morning, so by the time the 8 hour TWT ended at 11:30, we were some tired folks. It was worth it though, we saw moose, lone caribou + a herd of about 200 stampeding across the tundra, prairie dogs, rabbits, bears (far off & right by the road), Dall sheep on the mountain side and a Golden Eagle. The bus makes potty stops about every 1 1/2 hours where you can get off & stretch your legs. AND IF THE RIDE GETS TOO TIRING for you, you can catch a shuttle back to the entrance. Although my sister-in-law said it was a real hassle getting back to the McKinley Chalet Resort from the shuttle bus drop off.

HAL takes good care of you. Enjoy your trip to Alaska!
