Water, extenstion cords and more questions

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi all -- we are leaving on the Pride next Sunday. Here are a few of my questions.

My son drinks nothing but water so I am taking a 12 pack for him - question is, can he pack it in a duffle bag along with some other stuff of his and carry it on or does it have to be packed and carried on by itself??

With 3 cell phones in one room -- what kind of extension cord is allowed so we are all able to charge our phones??

Do they give out the lanyards or do we need to bring them?

My boys are ages 16 and 14 and my nephew who is 20 LOVE sports and trivia -- are they allowed to go into the bars that have the trivia games and live sports on the TV's??

Thanks for any answers to these questions --- I am beyond excited for this cruise. There are 20 of us going -- all but 2 are family and most of us haven't seen each other in 13 years.

I can't respond to all your questions but on the lanyards - for the adults, anyway, while Carnival doesn't give them out, you can go into the casino and they punch a hole in your card and attach one of the stretchy coil ones for free (at least they did a couple of years ago - someone will chime in if they've stopped doing that).

On our second cruise we did a behind the scenes tour and got one as part of the little goody bag at the end - we liked those better as they were more the fabric style. I am pretty sure you can also buy lanyards in the gift shop if you want to pay a premium price :-) But makes for a souvenir, what the hey.

Water - they will want to check the water - take it out, shake it, etc. to ensure the bottles haven't been refilled with alcohol, so it's better that you keep that separate or at the top of the duffle so he doesn't have to unpack all his unmentionables - grin!

Sounds like you have a great cruise planned!

they can go play trivia in any of the places, water is ok it just has to be carried on so a duffle bag will work. about the cell phones. it is very expensive to text or make calls on the ship because it goes thru the ships system not the phone providor, there is no free wifi either so you would have to buy an expensive internet package. we always take our sons phone and lock it in the safe after our first cruise where we had a 350$ phone bill. and he only used it one day. depending on the islands you go to and what you do there they can use the phones . call your provider and ask for the rates for the islands or find free wifi on the islands

Either bring your own lanyard (seen lots at Target, Home Depot, 99c Store, etc) or get the coil ones at the Casino.

The Casino doesn't like to give them to those who are underage but there are ways around that;)

If the guys don't want to wear a lanyard they could get rid of the coil and attach the hook to a belt loop. There's enough give to stick the S&S card into their pocket.

As far as the cell phone charging goes I have been using one of these Belkin USB /three way outlet adapters. Works great. If you want to charge an iPad with it make sure to get the 10 watt version

Thanks for the info. We don't plan on using the cell phones except my boys have all their music on theirs and I am sure they will have their earbuds in listening at times and also I use mine as my camera. I think I will just go buy a few lanyards and not have to worry. Thanks again!!

The water on the ship is very pure and very tightly controlled more so than on land. If you use the ice, it comes from the water. Other than maybe some convenience, taking bottled water aboard the ship is useless. BTW it has been shown that bottled water is not as pure as ship water on modern ships. They will closely inspect it to make sure the bottles have not been refilled with alcohol so keep it out.

Minors are allowed in all the bars and can order soft drinks at any time. However they do have a late night curfew when minors are not allowed in some bars. Trivia is open to any pax no matter what their age at any time. They can sit wherever they desire including at the bar itself. Depending on the ship, there are not a lot of TV screens available with sports showing all day but underage are welcome.

You have heard the horror stories of using a cell phone on the ship. Voice calls, messaging and data transfer is all expensive. Your offspring can use their cell phones to listen to music without cost if they are in the airplane mode only. So be sure to instruct them in using the airplane mode on their cell phones.

A power strip is the best way to increase the electrical outlets for charging cell phones, cameras, laptops, tablets and other electronic devices we all use today.

It sounds like you are going to have a fantastic family reunion. Kudos.

I've brought a surge protector and extension cord. Anything with enough outlets for your needs should work.

I you're driving to the pier then put your drinks in a piece of luggage and slap a luggage tag on it then drop it off with all your other bags. Lugging around a duffle bag full of waters will not be fun during embarkation (I know this from experience. Never again!)

If you have a Vineyard Vines near you they offer free lanyards... Just ask the cashier for one. By the registers they'll have multiple colored lanyards for sale... You have to ask the cashier for the free ones (I got 6 for one of my past cruises). No purchase is required and it's a super cute preppy brand most teens love

I though you couldn't bring surge protectors on board ships?

The rules state all beverages must be in a carry-on. Although you may have successfully checked them in the past, its not good advice to suggest to others they violate published policy.

Thank you all for the responses. We are going on the Pride so the bar I was mainly talking about is the EA Sports Bar with all the TV's and games. I will have my son carry on the water (only taking a 12 pack - mainly for the room and ports of call) - I wouldn't want to check it and have it somehow break open and wet other luggage. Thanks again --- 1 week from today we will be in the dining room ready for dinner lol
