fivesenuff Posted May 4, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 4, 2015 I am looking for various tours in the area and was wondering if anyone had any experience with Aurora Tours - Birds and Bears. Also if anyone could give a recommendation of other personal tours. It will just be DH & I and he is not much of a sportsman so don't think he really wants to hike anywhere, but we both love wildlife. Looking for a guide who is reputable and takes small groups...don't want to be crowded with 50 other people. We will be in port from 6am-1:30pm. Thanks in advance! pizzalady1 Posted May 4, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 4, 2015 On our first Alaska cruise we used Ketchikan Taxi Tours since we has such limited time in Ketchikan, much like you have (starts early in the morning and ends early afternoon). Ken and I talked before the cruise and we picked out what we would like to see. We did a 4 hour tour and it was wonderful. You can do any length of tour you want, they charge by the hour. http://www.ketchikantaxicabtours.com/

If you want to see bears, with a high percentage- you need a fly in, not a ground tour, which, overall, have low successful viewing stats. IF you choose this tour, the priority needs to be elsewhere. IF your priority is bears- AND you are there peak times, a fly in is "necessary", in my opinion.
bearbait Posted May 5, 2015 #4 Share Posted May 5, 2015 (edited) The best "personal tour" is with Lois over at Classic Tours. Lois is a long time Ketchikanite and knows the area front to back. http://www.classictours.com/ Edited May 5, 2015 by bearbait
