If your sailing west towards the UK . The sun will mainly left side facing forward .

If you were sailing due west the sun would rise directly behind the ship and set directly in front, so it wouldn't make any difference which side your cabin was, but you wouldn't spend much time actually doing this.

 

The best solution would be to plot the route on a map and work out the percentages.
