What are your favourite Sydney sights in the suburbs?

Recommended Posts

If time is limited, go to Darling Harbour. A few minutes walk from the port of Sydney. Visit the Aquarium, Wildlife Australia, and the wax museum. You could take in an IMAX movie, hop on a cruise or Harbour Jet, people watch in Tumberlong Park, shopping or eat on the water. A beehive of activity that I as a Sydneysider love. There is often fireworks and festivals here.

Catch the bus to Balmoral. You can get the bus from North Sydney station or from Town Hall or Wynard in the city. Beautiful harbor beach, lovely little island, fantastic up market beach side restaurants and some more reasonably priced. Get off at Mosman- 5 minutes in the bus for some up market retail therapy. This could also be combined with a trip to the zoo also at Mosman. Catch the bus from the zoo and get off at Mosman shops then walk down the steep hill on your right to Balmoral. I Suggest the bus back up to the city. It is a steep walk!

On another trip we dropped our bags at the pub we were staying at and caught the 555 bus around to CQ. We then got on the Manly ferry and did a return trip. Changed ferries and took the river cat up to Parramatta on our return back to CQ we caught another to Darling harbour before walking back to our pub all for the $2.50 seniors day excursion fare. A great day out at a bargain price.

Our only regret was that time didn't allow us to get off at some of the stations to explore the other delightful towns it was suggested to us.

Another gem on that route is Brooklyn, although the train stop is called Hawkesbury River. There is a pleasant and very tranquil walk around the headland, some good cafes including one at the marina, and some good fish restaurants for lunch.

There is also a very interesting shop near the cafe in the Marina which has homewares, some clothing, and hats etc.
