Shore Excursion - Monaco & Monto Carlo

We are due to sail on Equinox on 25th July and are starting to look at shore excursions for the ports. Me and my darling wife really want to see Monaco & Monte Carlo and notice that Celebrity offer it as a shore excursion. However, there is very little info on the tours on Celebrity website which makes it hard to decide whether it is worth it.

Can anyone who has been on this tour, provide some info on it e.g. what sights do you see - is casino, palace and Grace Kelly's tomb included; do you get any free time to explore etc

Or even advise on whether it is worth considering an "on your own day" from villafranche port as it only seems to be 15 mins by train compared to 1 hour by road on the tour.

Thanks

Villafranche is a picture perfect port. We tendered there on a Celebrity ship some years ago. Wonderful time walking the twisted side streets and eating overlooking the harbor. We did this after taking the train to Nice . Train is easy and just a stop or two to Monaco or Nice in other direction. By car you are driving on the mountainside and look at a map for the winding roads.

It is simple to do it on your own by train, but check the timetables, as you will have to disembark by tender at Villefranche and if you miss your train, you need to be sure there will be another one along shortly. We were there last month and at certain times of day the trains were not very frequent, but it may be different in the summer season. Monaco itself is tiny and easy to walk around for anyone in reasonable health.

Not sure what Celebrity is offering, but when we did this with another line, there was a combo excursion that included Nice, Eze (beautiful!!), and Monaco. It was a long day but we saw so much on our one day there, including Princess Grace's grave and the beautiful view from the top of the rock.

Ingrid at Kultours is great. We used her 2 years ago and went to Eze, nice and St. Paul. Great day. She books up early.

Last year we DIY taking the train to Monte Carlo for a couple hours and then to Nice. Told the ticketing agent what we wanted to do and he printed 3 tickets good on any of the trains going to each town. The train to Monte Carlo was very crowded so be prepared to stand as the seats may be full.

Lots of info and details in the ports of call section under Europe/ France for villafranche and Monte Carlo.

We did X tour, Nice, Eze, Monaco and it was wonderful. Palace, tomb, casino, free time, lunch in Eze - had a great guide, beautiful weather and lovely people. Looking forward to the race coverage this weekend to see the famous turn again. The yachts in the harbor, the views... [emoji3] !

This sounds like what we did and I, too, highly recommend it. About as much as one can see in just one day in this beautiful place!

I can recommend a wonderful local guide, Ingrid. Her website is http://www.kultours.fr/ -- very personable, will tailor to your interests, affordable. We used her services two years ago.

JoAnn

we used ingrid at kultours 3 years ago. she was outstanding. we had gone to monte carlo on our own in the past, however, she was able to show us things that we never would of seen on our own. i hope that she is available for you.
