I'm certain you will enjoy the suite. Don't forget that you have access to a pre-cruise concierge. He or she will reserve restaurants for you, take your pillow preferences, have your cabin equipped with extra towels, or whatever requests you have. The private breakfast and lunch restaurants is also a great perk, especially on boarding day.

In answer to picking a good cabin I recommend "Cruise Advice" They do an excellant job of giving you the pluses and minuses of all cabin catagories by deck and location. Their advice for the Star is available at:

Norwegian Star Best & Worst Staterooms: Summary

Best Cabins onboard the Norwegian Star: staterooms on Decks 9, 10, 12, and 14.

Cabins to be wary of onboard the Norwegian Star: stateroom on Decks 5 and 8.

Deck-by-Deck Breakdown of the Best and Worst Cabins onboard the Norwegian Star

Deck 4

Most of the cabins on the Norwegian Star's Deck 4 have cabins above them -- this means that they are typically quieter compared to cabins beneath the disco or sunbathing areas (the noise of moving deck chairs late at night / early in the AM).

 Forward on Deck 4 of the Norwegian Star, cabins 4500- 4503 are underneath the most aft portion of the stage. There could be some noise heard overhead from these staterooms during performances, as well as before and after when staff are preparing for or cleaning after a show.

 Except for the most forward exterior and interior staterooms (4500- 4505), the rest of the staterooms on this deck have cabins above, and are consequently going to be quieter.

Deck 5

***Warning ***

Some cabins on this deck with potential problems.

Deck 5 is right beneath several major public areas on the Norwegian Star, including the casino, bars, and restaurants. This could mean some noise issues for a select group of cabins.

 Forward on Deck 5 of the Norwegian Star, Oceanview Staterooms 5000 and 5500 are closest to the stage area, but have been arranged so that cabins, and not the theater are directly above. There are likely no major issues with noise, and the cabins are also a bit oddly shaped and more spacious than average.

 On Deck 5, exterior cabins 5526- 5558 port side and 5026- 5058 starboard are under the casino. Inside cabins in that area, 5525- 5553, 5025, and 5055, will likely be most affected. Noise issues from this area can occur after hours when many travelers are in their cabins on the Norwegian Star. If you are light sleeper, you may prefer to find a cabin elsewhere on the ship, bring earplugs, or invest in a wave machine (a sound device available at a specialty retailer like Brookstone -- produces pleasant sounds that can wipe out the unpleasant sounds).

 Port side on the Norwegian Star's Deck 5, interior cabins 5067- 5083 and Oceanview Staterooms 5072- 5078 are generally under bar areas. Again, we suggest looking for a stateroom elsewhere, bringing along ear plugs, or investing in a wave machine for light sleepers.

 Aft on Deck 5 of the Norwegian Star, Oceanview Staterooms 5668- 5638 port side and 5086- 5138 starboard, and interior cabins 5567- 5591, 5083- 5093, 5609, 5109, 5629- 5635, and 5129- 5135 are under restaurants. The noise experienced in 5132, according to guest reviews, does occur late in the evenings when staff are doing kitchen clean up. There could be noise during dining hours and during the clean-up after each meal. For dinner, the last diners usually exit by 10:30 and there is likely to some noise from the clean-up (vacuum cleaners) as late as 11:30. Given that most people don't get back to their cabins to after 11 PM, this shouldn't be a substantial issue. Breakfast typically starts in the main dining room at 7:00 AM, so you might hear some noise above starting then. However, few people go to the main dining room for breakfast, so, this should not be a major issue.

 Some of the worst cabins on the Norwegian Star are on Deck 5. While we are not suggesting that this deck be avoided, you will find quieter cabin areas on higher decks!

Deck 6

Forward on the Norwegian Star Deck 6, there are a few ocean view cabins. Because there are cabins above and beneath to buffer noises from public areas, these cabins are going to be relatively quiet. These are in an excellent location for travelers who love the theater!

 Oceanview Staterooms 6500, 6502, 6506, and 6508 have 159 sq. ft. of living space each on deck 6 of the Norwegian Star.

 These cabins accommodate up to for people, and have great ocean views!

Deck 8

******************** Warning ***

Some cabins on this deck with potential problems.

Along this entire deck, you should be aware that the main drag of the Norwegian Star is right beneath your cabin. Most of the public venues on Deck 7 are not going to present appreciable noise issues. However, there is a popular karaoke bar beneath a section of cabins, and staterooms most forward may have have some noise concerns from the theater below.

 Forward on Deck 8 of the Norwegian Star, interior cabins 8509- 8527 and 8009- 8025 could have noise issues from the theater beneath, and these staterooms are likely to be most affected. Exterior cabins in this area are 8506- 8550 port side and 8006- 8050 starboard. While this is likely not a late night problem, you could hear some noise during performances, as well as before and after when staff are preparing for or cleaning up following a show.

 Port side on Deck 8 of the Star, obstructed view staterooms 8608- 8618 are over a bar, which could be a late night noise concern.

 Best staterooms to consider on Deck 8 are going to be midship, between the elevators most forward and aft. These include balcony staterooms 8552- 8560 port side and 8052- 8060 starboard. There are several exterior staterooms with obstructed views in this section of Deck 8 on the Norwegian Star (8562- 8606 port side and 8062- 8110 starboard). Interior cabins 8563- 8569, 8063- 8069, 8087, 8589- 8593, and 8089- 8097 are also in this area. These staterooms have relatively quiet public areas beneath, and will not have much in the way of noise issues during the day or late at night.

 On the Norwegian Star's Deck 8, ocean view staterooms and suites 8658- 8676 port side and 8158- 8176 starboard, as well as interior cabins 8655- 8667 and 8155- 8176 are all over the aft night club which does feature dance music. There is a possibility that noises could be heard very late at night. Again, if you are light sleeper, you may prefer to find a cabin elsewhere on the ship, bring earplugs, or invest in a wave machine (a sound device available at a specialty retailer like Brookstone -- produces pleasant sounds that can wipe out the unpleasant sounds).

 Some of the worst cabins on the Norwegian Star are on Deck 8. While we are not suggesting that this deck be avoided, you will find quieter cabin areas on higher decks!

 Aft, the Norwegian Star has four Penthouse Suites (8670, 8672, 8172, and 8170) which command the most beautiful (and least breezy) ocean view.

 Between the Penthouse Suites, two balcony staterooms (8676 and 8176) have that highly sought aft view of the ocean!

Deck 9

***Favorite Deck ***

Highly rated by our cruise experts!

In addition to Penthouse Suites, Deck 9 of the Norwegian Star adds the luxurious Owners Suites! There are also several balcony staterooms and inside cabins from which to choose. Deck 9 has the added advantage of cabin decks above and beneath which filter out noise public areas can generate! Some of the best cabins on the Norwegian Star are generally onboard Deck 9.

 Forward on the Norwegian Star, Owners' Suites 9506 and 9006 offer the most spacious accommodations on Deck 9. However, unless there's a tailwind, balcony views from this vantage point are going to be breezy!

 Penthouse Suites 9502, 9500, 9000, and 9002 are located between the Owner's Suites on Deck 9 of the Norwegian Star. Once again, ocean views from these forward facing balconies are likely to be windy.

 Deck 9 of the Star features balcony staterooms port side (9508- 9730) and starboard (9008- 9230).

 If you are looking for an inside cabin, this is an excellent deck. There are several located on Deck 9 of the Star, and 9719 and 9219 are the most spacious!

 Aft on Deck 9 of the Norwegian Star, there are four Penthouse Suites (9732, 9736, 9236, and 9232). Each has up to 483 sq. ft. including the balcony, and that majestic (less breezy) view of the ocean.

 Balcony staterooms 9738 and 9238 are located between the aft Penthouse Suites and have that highly sought view of the ocean!

Deck 10

***Favorite Deck ***

Highly rated by our cruise experts!

The Norwegian Star's Deck 10 is also cushioned between two cabin decks, which helps to make this another, quieter place for a stateroom or suites. Some of the best cabins on the Norwegian Star are on Deck 10!

 Forward on the Norwegian Star, Owners' Suites 10506 and 10006 offer the most spacious accommodations on Deck 10. However, unless there's a tailwind, balcony views from this vantage point are going to be breezy!

 Located between these two Owners' Suites, Penthouse Suites 10502, 10500, 10000, and 10002 are the largest of their kind on Deck 10 of the Norwegian Star. Once again, ocean views from these balconies are likely to be windy.

 There are numerous balcony staterooms port side (10508- 10722) and starboard (10008- 10222) on the Star's Deck 10!

 Deck 10 of the Norwegian Star is also a great location to reserve an interior stateroom, if this is your preference because this is one of the quieter decks. Inside staterooms 10711 and 10211 are much more spacious than standard.

 Least preferred inside cabins are 10707 and 10207. Both are quite small and located by stairwells.

 Aft on Deck 10 of the Norwegian Star, Penthouse Suites 10726, 10728, 10228, and 10226 have incredible ocean views!

 Between the Penthouse Suites, balcony staterooms 10730 and 10230 also have that beautiful (less breezy) view of the ocean.

Deck 11

Deck 11 of the Norwegian Star exclusively offers mini-suites, inside cabins, and ten Family Suites. Of the cabin decks, Deck 11 is most oriented for children! Travelers who enjoy Lido pools and casual dining may prefer a suite here.

 Forward on Deck 11 of the Norwegian Star, there are ten Family Suites (11510, 11520, 11530, 11550, & 11560 port side and 11010, 11020, 11030, 11050, & 11060 starboard). Each of these has over 570 sq. ft. including the balcony, and features a bedroom for children as well as a second bathroom with a shower. The Family cabins are in in short-supply and are very popular given their attractive sleeping arrangements. They sell out very quickly, so it is best to book early if this is your preference.

 Staterooms and suites located forward on Deck 11 of the Star have the benefit of cabins above and beneath. These are exterior cabins and suites 11500- 11556 port side, 11002- 11056 starboard, and inside cabins 11501, 11503, 11519- 11531, and 11019- 11029.

 Past guests of 11115 have indicated noise issues as this cabin is underneath the Aqua Spa Cafe. Guests could here staff working in gthe cafe at odd hours.

 Most of the accommodations port side and starboard are mini-suites. On average, each of these have over 280 sq. ft. of space including the balcony on Deck 11 of the Star.

 On deck 11, exterior suites 11520- 11612 port side, 11020- 11112 starboard, and interior cabins 11519- 11535, 11019- 11035, 11579, and 11079 are underneath the pool section on Deck 12 of the Norwegian Star.  Port side heading aft on Deck 11 of the Norwegian Star, suites and staterooms 11670- 11680 are located over the teen center and video arcade. While this is probably not a concern into the wee hours, there could be noise issues in this area at night.

  • 2 weeks later...

its been a few years that we have been on the Star. But while we cruised in the DOS once and The Villa, I remember a inside bar that was open for just suite cabins during the day. Or I could be wrong. I have asked this due to our upcoming TA and a quite afternoon lunch with a bar is something I remember. Was that what I remember..

anyway, missing memory
