Confused about what you are waiting for, as all the answers in this thread have been consistent.

There will be a $7.95 charge for delivery of the Room Service Order, plus other charges IF anything included in that Order comes at an additional fee.

In most cases that "additional fee item" would be a Beverage which is not otherwise covered by a Plan.

Summary, if all your entire order triggers no additional fees', you'll pay only the Delivery Fee; If any additional fees do kick in, they are subject to an 18% auto gratuity.

We're waiting to hear how Harriet makes out with the meeting she speaks of in this post............

Okay I ordered room service this evening. I ordered soup and a BLT and a ginger ale and a glass of wine. I was charged $7.95 for room service on one slip. The other slip was the charge for the glass of wine plus the 18% gratuity for the wine. I was told I was not being charged for the soda since I have the soda pkg. Tomarrow I plan to request a meeting with the head of F&B along with the HD. I want them to read what the room service menu says out loud to me and give me their interpretation of what that means. The Head of F&B is not from America however the HD is American and from Florida so he has a good grasp of the English language. I'll report back after that meeting although I don't know when it will be. OTOH I was under the impression that even if you had the soda pkg. or the Udp that did NOT include delivery to your room via room service....yet there was no charge to me for that soda nor was there an 18% gratuity charge to me for that soda. FYI - the casino gave me the soda pkg and the casino gave me the ultimate alcohol card. The ultimate alcohol card is only good in the casino however the soda pkg. they gave me is good anywhere on the ship.

Oh and I asked him where I should leave the tray and plates and glasses when I was done and he said in the cabin or outside in the hallway by my door.

Ok I had a meeting today with the head of F&B. I mentioned to him how small the print was on the Ed menu and how most of us on Cc are reading it as to what it means. He said it was a temporary menu at this point and I stated be that as it may be however this is the menu every passenger is receiving when they request a Rs menu Connie as they are not in their rooms unless you requested. Menu, as they are not in their rooms unless you request it. He did admit that it was a bit unclear. He did admit that it was a bit unclear. He called room service while I sat there and ask them how they are charging people. I know as soon as I called room service to put in an order the first thing they said to me before they even took my order was that there will be a $7.95 with room service charge....and that was before I even placed my order. I do not know what they said to him although I did hear him say to room service you need to be careful. I do not know what they said to him although I did hear him say to room service you need to be careful. He told me he was going to look into this and get back to me later When I got back to my cabin around 1130 in the evening there was a message waiting for me from the hotel director. He said that FNB had spoken to him and the hotel director would like to meet with me tomorrow to answer all my questions about room service. When I got back to my cabin around 1130 in the evening there was a message waiting for me from the hotel director. He said that FNB had spoken to him and the hotel director would like to meet with me tomorrow to answer all my questions about room service Now mind you, when I made the appointment with the head of F now mind you, when I made the appointment with the head of F&B I told him I had questions about the room service charges and should I speak to him or to the hotel director? He told me he was in charge of food and beverage and I should speak with him. I told him I had questions about the room service charges and should I speak to him or to the hotel director? As it turns out he must have spoken to the HD because now I will be meeting with the HD tomorrow I'll get back to you later on what he has to say. I'll get back to you later on what he has to say I also intend to ask him where we are supposed to leave our room service plates and trays I also intend to ask him where we are supposed to leave our room service plates and trays

When I read the bottom of the room service menu on the CC board weeks ago I read it as a $7.95 charge for room service on some items, 18% gratuity on other items.

So I would have expected exactly what you received as charges.

Am I the only person on this board who interpreted it the same way NCL does??

Perhaps, because that's not what it says:

"* An 18% gratuity and beverage service charge will be added to your check for non-complimentary beverage or special occasion items"

That piece is clear

"Complimentary continental breakfast and orders that include special occasion and/or non-complimentary beverage items are exempt from the $7.95 convenience charge."

Take out the extra bits that don't change the meaning of the sentence, and you have

"Orders that include non-complimentary items are exempt from the $7.95 convenience charge"

Therefore, my lunch with my non-complimentary beer should be exempt from the convience charge.

They should have said "Orders of non-complimentary items are exempt from the $7.95 convenience charge"

totally different meanings.

I read it that you were charged $7.95 for the room service and then an additional 18 percent on those non-complimentary items. So if you ordered a hamburger and soda, you would be charged $7.95 and then the cost of the soda, say $2.25, plus 18 percent gratuity on the soda ($.41), for a total of $10.61. I also thought it meant by the special occasion and non-complimentary items were exempt, meant that if you ordered those by themselves, you would not have to pay the service charge, since you were paying for something. AGREED! I don't just cannot reconcile how anyone is interpreting it differently. Harriet mentions that the hotel director told them they need to be careful, but I think the problem here is much higher up the ladder.

No use in arguing about what NCL INTENDED to say, or what we think their policy SHOULD BE. This is what they actually SAID:

"Complimentary Continental Breakfast AND orders that INCLUDE special occassion AND/OR NON-COMPLIMENTARY BEVERAGE ITEMS ARE EXEMPT from the $7.95 convenience charge.

Maybe that is not what they intended to say. If so, a little proof reading and English comprehension would go a long way in whatever department is responsible.

Had my meeting today with the HD who happen to invite two higher ups from Miami corporate who happened to be on the ship. They are aware of how the fine print is being misinterpreted and are in the process of rewording the small print. Here are the actual rules which will be better understood once they revise the small print: Anything that has a fee will not incur the $7.95 room service fee as instead one will be charged the fee for that item plus an 18% gratuity fee. Anything that does not have a fee associated with it will incur the $7.95 room service fee. If you order BLT and a beer you will get two slips to sign. One for the $7.95 room service fee for the BLT and another for the cost of the beer plus 18% gratuity on that beer. If you have the soda pkg. or the UBP you still have to pay as they do not include room service to your cabin. Once the new menu comes out the wording will be clear for everyone. I also asked the HD about where to leave the dirty dishes and he said in your cabin and you can call room service to come and get them if you want. He said he needs to talk to room service as well as the head of housekeeping because they are saying in the hallway or in your cabin. He said in the future there may be a card delivered with room service saying to leave dirty dishes in cabin for pickup.

Please see part of your quote that I bolded above. Aren't the complimentary coffee/pastries ordered before 10 am still included with no $7.95 room service fee and no 18% gratuity fee since 18% of nothing is nothing ??

Is there a separate complimentary breakfast menu to hang on your door as done in the past ?

Thanks for the update. Glad that they do have a policy about the dishes and that they will have a card stating to leave them in the cabin for pickup.

BTW, you can let them know, that a few of us didn't misinterpret the fine print.

Again, thanks for taking time out of your cruise to get some clarification on all of this, it is much appreciated.

Thank you Harriet for taking time away from your vacation to get some clarification on the RS charges. No matter which side of this debate people were on at least the higher ups in charge at NCLH will MAYBE give some more thought to not only how they roll out these changes but more importantly, how they communicate them to their customers. If some don't like the changes they are free to take their cruising dollars elsewhere. My last NCLH cruise was on Epic January 2014 and my next is on Breakaway this October and if I had not been able to keep up with all the changes on NCLH by reading cruise critic I would be very upset to learn of them when I board in October. So Thank You to all those with inquiring minds and determination to get the information for the rest of us. I appreciate it.

Yes the complimentary breakfast is still free until 10 am. There is a separate menu for that.

I totally agree, just like everything, there is more than one opinion and/or interpretation on things. I'm just glad that you pointed it out to them and they will hopefully change the fine print to where everyone will be on the same page.

Again, thanks for taking away from your vacation to help clarify things.

This is totally confusing! You would be better off going to the Buffet! This is what some Cruisers are saying "Nickel and Diming" us! Not nice!

I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if it would be alright to buy a little lightweight plastic tray at the dollar store to bring our own meal back without spill the whole thing all over the place.
